Madrid to Munich
Any suggestions on the best way to get from Madrid to Munich? I am also having a difficult time navigating the Eurorail website. Any suggestions on that? We are traveling in Spain and Germany in June.
Thanks

If you mean Eurail -- is there a reason you are checking that site. did you happen to buy Eurail passes??
As for the best way from Munich to Madrid-- cruisluv is right --flying would be fastest/easiest/cheapest unless you have several days for the journey.

Right now Iberia looks to be the way to go. Air Berlin is currently non-competitive for June flights - that may change later but waiting is risky. Lufthansa is coming in second.
You should book a return flight on Iberia, and just don't take the return leg.
Prices are anywhere from about $128 to $260 for most daily combinations, most number of flights showing at $175. That is almost half of what one way flights cost and most of those have a connection.
It is at least a 20 hour trains trip with 3 changes - most itineraries even longer and with more changes.

We definitely plan to fly from Spain to Germany. Can't believe the steep price for one way flts. Any explanation as to why it is so much more to go one way? Has anyone ever booked a roundtrip and only used one way of the ticket? It's certainly tempting!
We are interested in the train pass for travel within Germany.

Arlene,
Your question is one of those great mysteries that probably will never be revealed. And yes, I have purchased round trips several times and just used one leg( especially within Europe). Play around with the "return" dates to get one that minimizes total ticket price.

Arlene,
Last year my daughter and I needed to travel from Verona, Italy to Munich where we would then travel by rail as we traveled through Germany and end our trip in Frankfurt, so we only needed a one way flight. I booked a round trip ticket with Lufthansa from Verona-Munich, and made up a date a week later for a return flight, so we only used the one portion of our ticket. Everything went fine. The only problem I had was as we were leaving Germany, I had someone question how an US citizen had arrived in Germany without going through passport control. I just explained that we had originally flown from the US to Italy, once there we flew from Verona-Munich. I had all of my documentation showing my travel, so no problem at all. The only thing I did notice about only using one portion of that ticket, is that I got no frequent flyer points for that flight at all. Lufthansa did not give me any airline miles, but that is fine, I saved the money, and I'm not likely to fly Lufthansa often enough to accrue enough points for a free flight anyway. Good luck with your plans.

LES,
I find strange they asked that question when movement through EU countries require no "passport control". In any event, obviously this had no relation to the purchase of the round trip ticket. Funny they didnt credit the miles. I can't recall if I had the same problem. But, like you say, the important thing is that you saved all that money!
