Lugano

Driving to Lugano for three nights and want to do some day trips from there either by train or car. Suggestions? Don't say Bellagio, please 'cause we have been there three times including two years ago. Getting just too touristy. Thanks for all the suggestions to come.

Hi Altour - How about ...

- Centovalli train ride?

- Bernina express Tirano-San Moritz (- returning from San Moritz via upper Engadin)?

- Lake Maggiore boat trip?

Steve

We absolutely loved going by car through the Verzasca valley up to Sonogno stopping at the different bridges, water mill and villages.

We went without rushing and made a full day out of it.

Speaking of Sonogno, if you do drive up this beautiful valley,
- stop at Corippo for a short walk through a preserved village
- walk over the famous bridge, Ponte dei Salti in Lavertezzo and admire the rock formations in the river
- say hello to Carmen, the Canadian sport arena and restaurant manager at Sonogno.

I'd highly recommend a drive (about 90 minutes from Lugano) to the mountain village of Soglio, just over the Swiss border in the Val Bregaglia.

Some years ago we stayed in Soglio at the historic inn on the square. Nearby was a very nice restaurant which featured a daily meal. Only one choice but it was very good. If you're interested I'll dig the details out of our scrap books.
We enjoyed exploring several little villages in the area. They seemed to be out of another era.

If you wouldn't mind, I would be interested. I'm looking for a place for lunch on my drive from Zurich to Lake Como.
