Looking for Vacation rental on French Riviera

Hi there,
can anyone recommend a good holiday apartment or house rental on the French Riviera?
My husband and I are looking for an August 07' getaway (from Manhattan) that isn't the Cape or the Hamptons.
We've had good experiences in the past with renting apartments and houses in Italy. In fact I just came back from Italy with my cousin where we stayed in an apt in florence and in rome while scouting for real estate to buy.
So I'm wondering if anyone could reccommend a nice rental in the french riviera. Nothing big, just for 2 people.
Thanks,
Mary

I'm going to get creamed for saying this but the French Riviera is more reminiscent of the Hamptons than you might imagine. (And it is far denser than the cape, with loads more car traffic near its beaches).

Would you consider islands in Sicily or the less-touristed Ligurian coast? How about Spain?

All that said, it is an easy shot from JFK to Nice, so you might try for something close to that area. Check out the slow travel website for reviews of holiday apartment rentals.

My wife and I and a couple of friends are heading off Friday for two weeks in a rental near Draguignan. The property is in a small village and is some way (about 55 minutes) from the main part of the Riviera. However, it is more convenient for St Tropez, St Maxime, Frejus, etc. Never been before so not sure what we are letting ourselves in for, but have a look at the website www.maison-mimosa.com and if there was any interest on your part, I could email you with our comments, favourable or otherwise, upon return.

Take a look at this:
http://www.holiday-rentals.co.uk/Fra...-Mer/p8595.htm

Very convenient Villefranche-sur-Mer. Private, gated parking, pool(I never used it)catch a bus 1 block away for 20 minute ride to "old town" Nice.

A nice place that might suit you.

I am w/Ness; the French Riviera is, if anything, highly reminiscent of the Cape or the Hamptons (much beautiful water, though!). As much as I love the French Riviera, I never stay long around the coast, choosing instead a rental inland w/day trips to the coast at leisure. I also favor holiday-rentals.com. Ness is right; the Delta flight JFK-Nice is as very, very convenient.

Thanks for all your help. I've been to Sicily (I have family there) so we were considering that as well. But My husband is learning French and wants to practice and since we enjoyed our time in Cassis and Menton 2 years ago, I thought we'd try it again. I will definitely try all the links that were posted. thanks again!

Please believe me when I say that I am not touting for business, but I have a part share in a villa in the village of La Motte en Provence, just south of Draguinan and north of Le Muy, which I acquired last year because of its excellent location for access south to St Tropez, west to Aix, north to the lovely hill villages, and less than an hour's drive to Nice. It is less than 10 minutes from the motorway (A8) and N7 junctions giving ready access to these places, and about 15 minutes from Les Arcs station if one prefers the train. The web site is www.villamotte.com

You may of course prefer to be in the mainstream and nearer to Cannes/Nice etc. The web site www.cheznous.com has a wonderful choice throughout the area.

We are going to Nice for 6 weeks starting Oct.18. Found a 1 bedroom with sofa bed at a very fair price (Off-season, please note.) Rented thru Riviera-Rentals.com They have several properties and manager was very responsive to all our email questions.

Try www.azuremaison.com in Old Town Antibes. Antibes is wonderful. This rental looks so fabulous on the site and location is fab--so much so that I made a reservation there for early October.

We're looking for July. I have also stayed in the apartment which gracejoan mentioned. It was lovely and fully air-conditioned - something we are having difficulty finding. It seems to be either AC or a pool and not both as that lovely apartment has. I would stay there again, but we need 2 bedrooms this time and more than one bathroom.

Try the "Relais de La Reine" apartment rentals in Cannes, right on the Croisette, across from the beach and about a block from the Carlton.

Not inexpensive but great two bedroom, 2 1/2 bath apartments.

They rent for a week and more.

Try to avoid times when there are large conventions in Cannes as the rental price is about triple.

We've rented there twice and have friends that stay for a month every summer.

Here is link....
http://www.lareine.com/

and surprise....the apartments really do look like the pictures!

Daily maid service is included in the rental.

Hi Marigold7,

Please check out www.niceviews.net We stayed at this fabulous apartment in August. The views are magnificent, and it was very peaceful. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone, and I hope to go back there again someday.

Good luck.

We are renting it for a week in July. I was hoping to get Newtourista to tell me what she thought of it, but we decided that it looked so serene and interesting and the location seemed perfect so we went ahead with the deposit today. The owners have been just wonderful answering all our questions. I will let you know how it works out, ekscrunchy.
