London to Dover
My husband and I are spending several days in London in July and then heading to Dover to board a cruise ship traveling to the Baltic. We thought it might be fun to take an early train from London and stop in Canterbury on the way to Dover. Our concern is what we would do with our luggage during our exploration of Canterbury. Similarly, we need to store our luggage so we can explore Dover prior to boarding our ship. I would appreciate information about checking luggage, if that is even an option with concerns about terrorists and bombs. Thanks for your help Fodorites. Jone

What ship and when are you leaving? My wife and I are on the Regatta (Oceania), leaving 7/18/06 from Dover.
We are also planning a bit of touring in the same area before the cruise.
Train stations often have luggage storage areas. Also, if you do an overnight, you can leave your luggage at the hotel. Additionally, we have checked into the ship early, and then gone back out and toured the city from which we were sailing.
Hope that helps. Let us know your itinerary.

"Train stations often have luggage storage areas"
MAIN Train stations have luggage storage areas, other stations MIGHT - but unlikely
However Canterbury does BUT it looks as if you have to make arrangements beforehand

At one time there were lockers at Dover's Eastern Docks, where most boat activity is at - but haven't been there recently. Canterbury has not always had rail station baggage storage - at least none several years ago when i looked. But a nearby cafe had a left luggage sign out front. That said i've never know alanRow to be wrong and Canterbury obviously has station luggage now.
