London at Easter

We are researching a trip to England (London and nearby) during April 2014. Due to other obligations, we are restricted to the last two weeks in April. Has anyone had experience with being a traveler in London and/or nearby locales over Easter weekend. Are museums,
restaurants and other sites generally open? Are these sites more crowded at that time?
I would have great hesitation about travelling to the Mediterranean countries at this
time but I am not sure about a England.

Thanks in advance.

The only thing we had trouble with was finding a time to tour Westminster Abbey. For some reason they kept having religious services! (That's meant to be funny, and we did find a time to see it.)

Easter Monday is a holiday so some tourist attractions are very crowded from the Friday through Monday. But shouldn't keep you from seeing/doing anything.

You will want to book any accommodations out in the countryside as soon as your dates are set.

Shops over 3,000 sq ft (ie anything bigger than a convenience store) are not permitted to open at all on Easter Sunday.

This can in turn force smaller shops (and restaurants) in some shopping areas to close. It has no effect on any other activity.

There are usually stories about crowded long-distance transport services on the Thursday or so before the weekend (mainly the airports filling up with people getting away for some sunshine) and, if the weather's nice, traffic jams on roads to the seaside. But that's about the only real problem you're likely to encounter.
