Suggestions on places to go to after Venice

Hi there,
we are going to go on a cruise in May 2013 which starts and ends in Venice. After the cruise we would like to extend our holiday by visiting some place nice not too far from Venice - about 2 hrs drive max. We will have our car with us. Having been to Italy several times, we have been to all the big cities and our last trip was to Lake Garda (went all around) and Verona. Does anyone have some tips - what about Trieste?

Thanks for any help I can get.

Do you want to drive? You could take the train to Bologna and visit Modena and Parma.

Asolo - we spent a charming 3 nights there and spent our days visiting other towns nearby, including Bassano, Cividale, Marostica, Treviso ...

Cortina was very lovely when we visited in October. There is great hiking, the olympic venue was fun to tour and the restaurants were excellent and uncrowded.

I too recommend the Dolomites...Bolzano, Cortina, Castlerotto, St. Ulrich, etc.
Just came from there two weeks ago. The weather in May/June should be great for hiking.

Vicenza

Great architecture, via the road at the side of the Brenta Canal.
