London - Good budget hotel near LGW or Victoria Stn

I will be flying from LGW on an early flight that departs at 7.45 am. I need to stay near Victoria Stn the night before or at an airport hotel near Gatwick, but the hotel needs to have a shuttle that operates early enough to get me to the airport by 5.30 am. What suggestions do fodorites have? Should I stay at Victoria or at the Airport? Thanks.

Is this just an overnight layover, or will you be spending time in London? Also, what exactly is your budget? I'm asking because the term "budget can mean different things to different people.

I've stayed at the Hilton (IIRC) right at Gatwick (you just walk through the terminal), which was very convenient for an early flight, but pricey given the quality of the hotel and service.

I am taking the Eurostar from Paris and will be in London overnight.
I would like to spend 60GBP or less, for a single room.
Thanks.

Hi
Am I the only person that doesn't understand LGW and some of the other abreviations used?

www.holidaycity.com/londonhotels is a site that allows you sort hotels by price and tells you in what area of the city they are located. My quick search showed a few hotels under 50 GBP in the Belgravia area within easy walking distance of Victoria Station. I can't vouch for the quality of these hotels since I haven't stayed in any of them.

Hi G,

We stayed here the night before our flight out of LGW.

There is a nice old church and lovely pub not far away.

They have 24 hr shuttle service.

aieger, LGW = London Gatwick airport.

I have stayed at Gatwick Belmont and it was fine, but I prefer Gable Inn Guest House. Both of these hotels have shuttles. I'm not sure if they run so early in the am, but if they don't, a taxi is only about 5 GBP.
