Lodging in Cochem???
The Alte Thorschenke is booked
I need 1 double room mid-June (2 nights) for my mom and me. We will have a car, so we'll need parking, and of course a great breakfast! Pref under 80E
Thanks for any and all input!

We stayed at the Moselromantik Hotel Thul. Located in a residential area, somewhat elevated, on the mountain, overlooking the Mosel river and the town centre of Cohem. Private parking. Great buffet breakfast (free champagne every morning).
On arrival we got coupons for free "Kaffee und Kuchen" (home-made!).

Thanks for your input! Unfortunately, Hotel Germania seems to be booked and Hotel Thul (looks wonderful!!) is out of our budget- about 120E/night... anyone else have any suggestions?
Or a way to reach Hotel Germania?
TIA!

Beilstein is a cute, quiet little village not far from Cochem. Hotel Haus Lipmann has rooms close to your price range--as low as 85 euro for a double room. They have a good restaurant, too. Includes breakfast and there's free parking near the hotel.

Have you considered a "zimmer frei"? We always stay in these B&B-type places. And we have yet to be disappointed. Check with the local tourist bureau in Cochem or nearby towns. They can head you in the right direction. And you can't beat the prices -- or the breakfasts.

Unless you just have to have a lively night time atmosphere, I strongly second the recommendation for Beilstein and Hotel Haus Lipmann. It is a small town but on a lovely part of the river with the beautiful Karmelitenkirche and Burg Metternich to visit. There are several very good restaurants in town besides the exceptional one at the Haus Lipmann. It's very easy to drive from Beilstein to Cochem, Burg Eltz and many of the other small towns along the Mosel.

I have to third the vote for Hotel Haus Lipmann in Beilstein!! Staying there was one of the highlights of our trip last year. We had a room for 3 facing the river, including breakfast (which was great as well) for something around $125. I am sure it would be cheaper for a double. The people were so kind to us and the town is fairytale like, including their own castle. Parking is not a problem and the drive to Cochem is very short, we did it almost daily for the internet cafe.

Ahh! You are making this such a tough decision
I have since found out that the weekend we will be visiting (June 15-17) is a long weekend in Germany with a Wine Festival in Cochem- so that explains the higher prices... We enjoy lively nights, which is why I'm pushing to stay in Cochem... plus a wine festival would surely be a blast! My mom and I are fun ladies!!
But Hotel Thul is wanting 66E/person/night which pushes our budget a bit. It's not that we cannot afford it, we can. We just like to be a bit more budget-minded when it comes to lodging so we can splurge more on food and wine! Plus, you are all really making Haus Lipmann and Belistein sound so fabulous... I'm just not sure what to do!
I wish I could find more info about this wine festival... any links I need to check?

Myriam- below is part of the email I received- it's a little hard to understand, but when I went through their online reservation page, I got 66E/night/person... which I believe will make it about $159/night total. I'm guessing the high prices are bc of a festival and long weekend. Should we do the 76E/night and take the dinner?? (I guess that would be IF we decided to stay there...)

Rick Steves recommends a couple of hotels in Cochem including Hotel Lohspeicher and Hotel am Hafen. I'm waiting to hear from them as well as Haus Lipmann and Thul for a weekend in late May as, like you, I found my first choice the Alte Thorschenke is booked.

Oops, I didn't read the whole text they had emailed to you!
What I understand is that the quote of 66 euro pp is for a room type B in HALF BOARD (which means bed+breakfast + dinner). The quote of 76 euro is for a room type D, also in half board.
Most probably they will not do just B&B on this special weekend.
FYI We had a standard double which was quite large but it didn't have a view on the Mosel river.

I usually stay at B&B's in Cochem - either with the Mattes family or Frau Hilken, both on Loehrstrasse, just a couple of blocks from the main square in the old town and not far from the castle. Prices are about 20 euros per person double with breakfast, but the Mattes' also throw in a living room with balcony for that price - nice. The Cochem TI should have contact info for Hilken, not sure about Mattes.
Another place I've stayed is in nearby Bullay, a great spot to set out on walking and biking adventures and a short train ride from downtown Cochem - about 35 double with private bath, nice balcony:

Yes, both offers include dinner. And yes, they are just different rooms. We had a room B, too, and it was fine!
I checked the German version of their website and it clearly states that Wochenend- oder Feiertag-Wochenend-Buchungen während der Hauptsaison werden nur inkl. Frühstücks-Büfett und Abend-Menü angeboten (weekend or holiday-weekend bookings during high season are only offered inclusive of buffet breakfast and evening menu).

Thank you so much! Including dinner makes the price more reasonable. I will reserve the type B room tonight. Now, I just need to find out more info about this wine festival- it sounds so fun! Any other advice on Hotel Thul?
