Let's try again

Apparently some people are more interested in being critical than helpful.

I am going to Germany at the end of November for three Weeks. I will be in the area of Muhlhausen (Meuhlhausen)Thuringia. This is between Kassel and Erfurt.

I will be on a limited budget and would appreciate any information regarding lodging in the general area in hotels,b&b and pensions. I will have a car (what is cheapest car rental) for a week and a 6 day rail pass. I also hope to travel in the Frankfurt am Main area.

I would be greatful for any info regarding this trip.

David, I wish I could help you but don't know that area well enough. I would suggest you post your request again but instead of "lets try again", post with something like "need lodging help with the Muhlhausen area of Germany" so people will open your question if they are knowledgable. Just a suggestion to get more response.

Unfortunately Art the four responses where four insults. David needs a little help communicating his question.

First, let me apologize for the knuckleheads that have nothing better to do than practice their insult typing on this board.

Unfortunately I can't recommend any specific places in Thuringia but you may do a little research with the following:

German tourist board (US): 800-637-1171
www.germany-tourism.de
www.muehlhausen.de (German only)

You may want to repost changing the title of your post. I know there is a woman named Miriam who lives near Frankfurt and regularly posts to this board and she is very knowledgeable about Germany.

Hello David

and thank you Philip (the name of my beloved grandfather).

Ok, I must admit that I`ve never been to Mühlhausen. I did a quick research on that area. I don`t know what "budget" means to you, I found about 20 hotels around 40-50$ a night in Erfurt, Eisenach etc. at
http://www.hrs.de
It`s in English and if you have a map, just look what is convenient for you. I don`t want to recommend a place, because, as I said, I`ve never stayed there overnight.
You can`t go wrong in that area, although everything is now priced on "West-German" standards, it`s still a kind of bargain to go out for dinner or to have a drink.
If you need any further assistance regarding Frankfurt (that`s another story regarding money issues)-just drop me a line, I live near the city.

Kind regards

Miriam

Hi David!

I had a quick look at the site that Phillip gave you (www.muehlhausen.de).

There are quite a number of Pensions at prices between $20 and $25 pp per day including breakfast.

There are seven or so Ferienwohnungs (self-catering apartments for two people) at around $30 per day for two, no breakfast.

There is a range of hotels from $25 a day to $100 a day per double room.

You certainly need not worry about finding somewhere to suit your budget, and there is no need to pre-book, as this place is right off the regular tourist track. Just show up at the local tourist office when you arrive and they will fix you up with accommodation.

If you would like a name or two to follow up when you arrive, post details of the number of people in your party and your preferred price range and I will find something for you from this site.

Regards
Harzer

Looking:

Did you read the prior post? David sure felt he was insulted. And no one offered him any answers. Why do some people feel the need to offer an insult when they have no other useful information to share? Personally, I know nothing of Meuhlhausen or David but am glad he's finally gotten some good information.

The prior thread was called "Germany on a Budget." Good example of how we sometimes treat newcommers.
Hi Dave,
For hostel info, try www.hostelgermany.com/

I see you're going to visit your grandpa's home town - that's wonderful. This past June, my husband and I visited his grandpa's village of Linguaglossa in Sicily. It was a nice experience. We went to the church where he'd (grandpa) been baptized, found old records (they had hand-written record books going back to the l500's!), we made copies of records and gave to other relatives when we got home, and they got a kick out of that.
A nephew who'd been studying in Rome came with us as he'd been there before, and he introduced us to a wonderful elderly gentleman who kinda served as the town historian - he took us around, trying to find other Zappalas. In our wandering, we came upon a cheese/dairy truck driving by with the name Zappala on it, so of course I had to take pictures of that! So I hope you have good luck, and enjoyment too, in your pursuit.

One last thing, you will find lots of good, inexpensive food in Germany. Beautiful scenery and very nice people too. Have a great trip.
