Leaning Tower?
Does anyone have info on the opening hours/days of the tower in Pisa for visitors to actually climb it? Have tried the "official" web site and unable to find this info.

Also, could you please give your opinion on ease of transportation from Florence to San Gim. to Siena? This will be in mid-February and as we plan only on visiting both Tuscan towns for 1-2 days, we will not be renting a car. Am I correct in assuming there is not a train between Florence and San Gim and onto Siena.

Thanks so much

The last news report I saw (in September) was that the tower would open sometime in December for a limited number of people at a time.
There is a commuter train that runs from Florence, our to Lucca and then Pisa. We hopped off at some small suburban station at the next to last stop, from whence we could see the tower. It was closer than walking from the main station. These trains run every 30 or 60 minutes all day. We were there til 9:00pm on Sept. 22 to get a good evening shot of the tower. All the stores start to close when it gets dark, but the grounds of the Duomo stayed open. Nobody shooed us out.
When it does open, it will probably be for some long hours. After all, when you think of the iconic images of Italy, whatt comes to mind? (Like Big Ben for London, or Eiffel Tower for Paris)? Colloseum, Venetian gondolas, and THE LEANING TOWER. The Italians know a good money-making tourist attraction when they see one.
