Le Petit Parisien - 3 plans par Arrondissement, 2010 edition

Hi there! I was over on TA forums and learned that the above titled Paris map booklet has a 2010 edition - mine is either 2001 or 2005, so I thought I needed a newer one. I know most will say, buy it when you get there, but that isn't my personality type much, especially b/c I like to study maps in advance. So, why not buy one online? Well, shipping cost from France comes to mind... however, I gave it a shot anyway - here is what I did:

I ordered a new 2010 "le Petit Parisien 3 plans..." book from MASSIN. I used the link provided by djkbooks:
http://www.massin.fr/plans-de-paris/...-parisien.html

I created an account for the order. I got crafty and googled for coupon codes, and found one that WORKED. The book was billed to me at 5.85€ and the coupon code removed the shipping entirely! no matter that I am having it sent to my USA address. The code I used was MASSIN12 .

If any fellow Paris fans want to get a newer booklet, you can try this yourself and you can always cancel/back out of the order if it isn't working the way mine did. I have received email conf that the book has shipped. . .

Note that this booklet is around 5x8 inches, so pocketbook size, not pocket size. It has 3 pages per arr, one for streets, one for metro lines & stops over the streets, and one for bus lines & stops over the streets. It is much easier to use than the map books you'll find for buses only. If you shop online by using the ISBN, you will find mostly older versions - - the 2010 as same ISBN as the old ones.

Hope someone else finds this helpful!

Why update to a 2010 edition when most of the information (I would guess 99%) is the same as the previous edition?

I got my new addition in Paris last May, and noticed that some of the bus routes had changed. Perhaps 99% is the same, but if you rely on that 1%---- you may have a long wait.

nukesafe,

but what guarantee do you have that a 2010 edition is accurate for 2012? The route change might have occurred in the last two years.

I think he's saying his most recent book shows the changes. And yes, there could be a few more in the past year or two... so imagine over 7 years, the age of my book..?

No guarantees, Michael. Sure, they could have changed the routes on the day the newest addition was published. As a sailor, it was drummed into my head that the need for the latest charts was a prime imperative of prudent seamanship. If I'm going to carry a pocket guide I want the latest edition in my hand.

Of course, the best thing to do is to jump on your computer and check with the RATP site for the official latest routing. I just like to have a map in my hand that I can scribble on.

<<Why update to a 2010 edition when most of the information (I would guess 99%) is the same as the previous edition?>>

Well, for one thing, there are now 26 bus routes running until late at night compared to 10 previously, and 30 bus routes now running also on Sundays & Holidays compared to 19 previously. Some bus routes have been eliminated.

For 5,85, I cannot imagine spending hours and hours checking everything on the RATP website (which I have done ahead of procuring the latest edition).

The routes haven't changed much, so you can tear pages out of the old edition for carrying around and save the new edition for reference. (Previously, I scanned the bus pages.)

The newer edition also includes the Velib stations, public toilets, too.

I'm convinced. I should replace my copy which does not even have the tram line on the PC.

While the center of Paris does not change much, it can be affected by changes on the edge of the city -- for example, the name of the terminus of the metro lines. For example, before 2012 has ended, the "Porte d'Orléans" direction will be replaced by "Montrouge" and the "Porte de la Chapelle" direction will be replaced by "Front Populaire." Also, the T3 tram line will circle the city two thirds of the way (south, east and north), cancelling the bus route there.

Every time a metro terminus changes, all of the bus lines at the old terminus change as well.

And of course, even in the center of the city, with the Les Halles area having its guts torn out, the map of the 1st arroundissement will soon be changing as well.

I know this is a really old post but I just wanted to let those interested in ordering know, that I changed the promo code on a guess to Massin13 (since its now 2013) and was able to order this book for less than 6euros with free shipping to Canada! Thank you!
