Le Bristol

Has anyone been to the restaurant Le Bristol in Paris? We're thinking of going there for a special occasion this summer. The terrace sounds lovely.

I'm resending this because I think it got lost.

We ate their just last week, May 22. I highly recommend it. They gave us a table in the terrace room at the window and it was very nice. Service was superb!

The a'la carte menu is very expensive, appetizers average 30 euros, entrees 40-60 euros. However the prix fixe menu is only 60 E. per person for 3 courses.

Wine is also expensive, some bottles at 13,000 euros. However, the wine steward was very understanding and recommended a nice red for 37 euros.

This was our only "fine dining" experience while in Paris. We ate at bistros and brasseries on the other nights.

Bob, thanks for the feedback. I emailed for a reservation yesterday and the head waiter wrote back almost immediately. He also attached a menu, which looked delicious. The tasting menu for dinner was listed at 120 euros for five courses, including dessert course and cheese course. Is there a separate prix fixe menu for dinner that's 60 euros?

I'm happy to hear the service was so wonderful and that the wine steward recommended such a reasonable wine.

Can I also ask, what it the custom with tipping?

panvan
"tipping" generates a lot of controversy here, sometimes goes down to the level of "only American dolts tip" to "only cheapskates don't tip."
It is true that a service charge is already included in the final bill in any Paris restaurant. The rest, if any, is up to you.

You can do a search here on that topic, or else go elsewhere on this Fodor's website and look for Tipping--it might be under General Travel Hints. Most guidebooks also address the subject.

More tipping suggestions:
http://www.bparis.com/newsletter1464...attrib_id=1946
www.worldexecutive.com/cityguides/paris/etiquette.html

I have a file on Paris; if you'd like to see it, email me.
On the first inside page of our menu there was a 3 course "Spring Menu" at 60 E. each for dinner. Hopefully, its still available. Maybe you should check with the restaurant. Also, my wife's menu didn't have prices. I haven't seen that custom for years even at the most expensive restaurants here in the US.

The tip is included.
