LAX-Zurich-Catania (1.5 Layover Enough Time???)
I am flying with Swiss Air to Catania from LAX and have a layover in Zurich for 1 Hour and 30 mins. Is this layover enough time? I don't want to miss my flight for Catania and also miss my check in bags. Does anyone have experience with flying Swiss Air and with this itinerary?

I have not flown Swiss Air to Catania but I have flown it from the US with a 90 minute layover in Zurich for a flight to Athens and again on a 70 minute layover to Paris. Both times, I had no problem making the connection and my luggage made it to my destination on the same flight that I did. When I am flying on a flight with a connecting flight on the same airline that I bought with one record locator number/code, I don't worry a great deal about connecting time unless my connection is to the last flight of the day or if I am traveling with a group and worry that there will not be enough seats for us on the subsequent flights.

We did a Swiss flight from Miami to Budapest in JUly with a 1 hour and 20 minute layover. Both flights were a little late so all worked our fine. On the ifly.com website there is a zurich airport forum with lots of similar questions and the consistent answer is 90 minutes is enough time as long as you don't need to collect checked bags, whcih you will not since you are continuing on Swiss. Assuming your first flight arrives on time, you'll be fine for your connection and, if not, Swiss will get you onward asap.

I presume your flights are:
LAX-ZRH SWR 41
ZRH-CTA SWR 8398 operated by Edelweiss air?
If you feed these flights into flightaware.com, you see that the SWR41 is arriving almost always early while SWR 8398 is chronically late in departure. These are probabilities in your favor. However, just because it was smooth sailing for other posters and the past statistics favor you, it does not guarantee your case.
What are you going to do if you do not make it? I see that there was a day in last two weeks SWR41 was one hour late arriving.
If we postulate that you have bought LAX-CTA as one reservation, you can get compensated for airline caused "significant" delay. Whether it is unconditional "ok" or not depends on the consequence of delay to you. I see that Swiss air has no other direct flight other than yours flight. I don't see direct flights by any other company after your flight either. You can be seriously delayed in getting into CTA. Is it "ok" to you?
If you find out on your departure day that the flight SWR41 would be scheduled to be late, you would get a message from Swiss air if they have a contact info. This can be only a several hours ahead. It helps if you have done a homework before to have some idea of alternate flight possibilities. What happens if you stay on the delayed flight and what happens if you can leave LAX early on alternate flight to get to ZRH in time for your CTA flight.
