Hi! We are arriving late into Rome on a very long extended flight from Los Angeles. Some time the next day we intend to catch the train from Rome to Florence. I am trying to decide whether to spend the night in Rome (and if so, where; any suggestions?) or at/near the airport (again I would love suggestions on where) Any ideas??

While I can't name any specific hotels, I would recommend staying near the airport in Rome. I say this because it is nearly impossible to get a cab in Rome late at night (except from the airport, which will cost you an arm and a leg).

You can then take the train from Roma Fiumicino Airport stop to Roma Termini (downtown Rome Train Station) or Roma Tiburtina. I would say take the train to Tiburtina, which is due north of Rome and is far less congested than Roma Termini. The airport train stops at Tiburtina before Termini.

It will take about 0:30 hr to get to Rome TE from FCO and another 1:36 hr to get to Florence.

Your adrenalin should keep you going until you get to your Florence hotel.

Thanks for your suggestion. another question... if I decided to stay in Rome, someone mentioned a car service that I could arrange for in advance. Any thoughts?
