We're cruising from Galveston (Transatlantic) with stops in Madeira, Casablanca, Gibraltar, Alicante, Barcelona, Cannes, Genoa, Elba (Portoferraio), Livorno and Civitavecchia and then bumming around Italy for three weeks. Probably Sicily, Positano, Umbria, Tuscany and Lake Como. We have a hotel reservation in Rome the last three nights, the rest will fall into place. Hopefully we can hook up with Monica P. if our schedules coincide.

Family trip with myself (25), my brother (22), Mom, step-dad, step-sister (17), May 25 - June 5. We are going to Rome, Florence, and Sicily. I have been to Italy two times, once with my brother once on a summer long trip with a bestfriend, but this is our first family trip together (we are italian), so we are totally stoked (to bring back a word from the 80s). It is a last hurrah before I get married in August.

LouisaH Jan 16th, 2006 07:00 AM

I'm flying to Rome March 22 to meet my daughter, who is studying in Rome this semester.
Siena--3 nights
Cinque Terre--2 nights
Venice--2 or 3 nights
We'll take the train back to Rome. I'm considering renting a car in Orvieto so that we can explore Tuscany and return it in La Spezia.

lvk Jan 16th, 2006 10:36 AM

I skimmed over the 100+ previous messages, and did not see many people going in August. Am I the only dummy to book in August?

We'll fly into Munich, visit family and friends in Germany and Austria, then stay with friends for 4-5 days along Lago Maggiore. We then plan to drive south to Tuscany for 3-4 days,
Verona for a day, then back to Munich.

krix Jan 16th, 2006 03:33 PM

So excited to be leaving for Venice on the 26th (less than nine days!) for a christening.

Returning in mid-June for three weeks in Rome, Florence and Venice with my husband and his brother & wife. We're not too keen on doing the trip in summer months, but the BIL is a teacher so we have to wait to take off after school lets out.

bardo1 Jan 16th, 2006 04:09 PM

I’ve decided to focus on Rome. I’m going to stay there for 10 to 12 days in early May. I will make two side trips, one being a day in Orvieto. I’m not sure if it is wise financially for me to go. I don’t care. I’m going. Period.

Chestelle Jan 25th, 2006 06:56 AM

We're planning our first-ever trip to Italy April 11-23. We'll spend 3 days in Rome (in an apartment near Piazza Navona), then take a train to Florence where we'll actually only spend one night. From there, we'll rent a car and spend the next week at a villa near Pescia (just north of Florence). We plan to make several day trips from there down into Tuscany, but most importantly, back up to the Cinque Terra. My daughter says it is NOT to be missed!

Then, finally, back to Rome on Saturday evening for 2 nights and flying back home (Texas) on Monday. Everything's booked except those last 2 nights in Rome, so any help there will be appreciated. Can't stay in the same apartment because they require a 3-night minimum. We need to stay under $200/night. Thanks!

massagediva Jan 25th, 2006 07:19 AM

I guess the question really is,Who isn't going to Italy this year!

bardo1 Jan 25th, 2006 07:20 AM

Chestelle,

You need to post your inquiry under a new thread - otherwise this one could veer way off course.

A title along the lines of "Need Rome hotel near Piazza Navonaa under $200/night" will yield more results than "Italy! Who's going in 2006 and when?"

Best of luck.

ginder Apr 7th, 2006 06:48 AM

I don't know if jd_dallas will be back to this message string. But I will also be in Cortina around the same time. I am curious as to how he/she is getting to London and then Bologna. My wife and I have Delta FF tickets to Rome coming back to the U.S. from Bologna. I am concerned about Delta so would like to know more about the London to Bologna connection. Thanks.
