I'll be there a year from today, as a matter of fact, in Rome. May get over there earlier in '06, too, but at this time I have no concrete plans other than my end-of-year trip.
BC |
I just booked a ticket to Venice,in early March. I also booked a room at Pensione Accademia, which I enjoyed earlier this year.(I just returned from India and was feeling depressed,so this was my comfort!)

March 29 - April 8 Arrive Rome, depart Venice. |
I am going with 7 other women to the Veneto and Emilia Romagna in late Sept. We have rented a villa for one week and will spend a few days on each end in hotels/B&Bs in whatever cities we arrive in/depart from - probably Rome Florence or Venice. So far we know we want to see Ferrara, Ravenna, Bologna, and go on a tour of parmesan cheese/ham/balsamic production.
|
Wow look at all the people going to Italy!
My plan is to go to Venice first two weeks of October with three crazy German friends. Having a helluva time finding a big beautiful apartment for 4 with a terrace on a canal! |
offwego, I can relate to the apartment with terrace issue since that is always a must for me and DH, as well. Have you checked with www.venicerentals.com? I have now rented two apartements in Venice with a terrace thru them and was very pleased with both.

I think you and I chatted about your Rome quandry at the "other place". I was actually thinking about you last night as I was searching for the same thing in a different city! I checked out your site and was disappointed that they don't seem to actually have apartments listed (pictures, maps, etc.) Do you just send them an email, tell them what you want and they find it? |
I am planning a trip for my family(8 of us) May 25-June 9. We will be in Rome(with a day trip to Pompeii),Florence and surrounding tuscan countryside and last but not least London. Rooms booked but still waiting for easyjet to release the dates from London.
I hope all your travels are exciting and eventful!! |
offwego, I know where you are coming from in research since I also prefer to look at things myself straight off the site.
When I first started renting from Venice Rentals they had all their listings available on the website and you could search on your own. I'm not sure why they no longer do that, but I can guarantee that if you email Denise and Maurizio with your requirements, they will send you a bunch of links for you to look at...with no pressure after that. Just email them ([email protected]), take a look at what they send you, see if something interests you and then you can get back to them. Although not directly on a canal, I still think the Scala del Bovolo apartment might work out really well for you. But, that's just my opinion. |
I'll be in Italy May 12th - 26th, visiting Florence, Bologna, and Venice; with day trips from each city. I posted a message on fodors for a fodorite get together in Florence (...or Bologna or Venice!). So far I'll be meeting up with two people and would go have others join us. We'll probably meet Saturday evening the 13th. Email me if you're interested!

Sorry to hijack this thread I did get in touch with them. Of the listings they sent, one apartment looks great, very near the Rialto bridge. So that's a possibility. 3900 Euro. I missed the information about the Scala del Bovolo apartment. Is that a listing of theirs? They didn't send that one.... |
offwego, it's possible that they do not have the Scala del Bovolo apartment any longer, but you could always ask. To be honest that one is near the Rialto Bridge, as well.
What is the name of the one you are interested in? You can email me at [email protected] if you wish. |
We changed our plans. We're not going in September. I just booked flights for June! That's three full months earlier. :d
B-) |
Yeah, Myriam! It's even closer now! You must be thrilled! :)

We're doing a Rick Steves Best of Italy tour (rome, florence, venice, etc.) in September. It begins in Milan. After we leave the tour we will go on our own. To where?..no idea yet. I am researching. Any ideas????
We will end up in Paris of course. |
We're heading to Venice, Milan and Lake Garda for 2 weeks this summer. We have....25 people traveling with us. 13 of them are kids :). Maybe someone has room for me in their smaller group LOL!!!
Still looking for the perfect place in Milan for 2 nights. Cheers! V |
Our family of 4 (parents and 2 teen boys) is going to Italy for the third time in 2006. We will be joined by two of the kids' friends and my sister and her friend. We'll be in Positano at the end of July and Rome in early August. This is the first time we've stayed in weekly rentals. We are already excited!
|
I was able to get a free business class ticket with AA advantage program. I leave SAT for Rome August 28th.Stay in Italy for 10 or more days then fly to Paris..Take the TGV for Avignon.
I still dont have a precise itinerary. My sister lives near Uzes and she mentioned that perhaps we may go for 2 weeks in Peniscula,Spain.I would love that very much. Of course on my way back I will enjoy the beautiful Ville Lumiere, at least for few days. Then Sept. 26, with great regret I will once again say goodbye to my old Europe and hello Texas. Then the familiar pattern will start once again..with me dreamings and planning for my next trip to my beloved city. |
Husband and I are planning an 8-day trip in fall 2006 to Venice and Rome, although our itinerary might change to include another city or town. All of my grandparents were from Italy (Venice, Lucca, Milan). Can't wait!
|
Going to Salzburg first but then Venice, Cinque Terre, and Lake Como in June. It will be the second trip to Italy for me and my husband but we are bringing our 11 year old son for the first time. (will be 12 by then)

|
I still can't believe this, but I'm going to be in Rome from March 17th to 24th. I landed an incredible fare of $250 Israel-Rome including all taxes, AND I'll be earning airmiles.
I've never been there and very curious. I'll probably take 1-2 daytrips. I managed to secure Hotel Giardino for 90E per night, a bit too high for me, but there was no choice, really - hotels are so expensive there. I can't wait! |
Beginning of February with my husband(an artist/painter). Going to Paris - Florence - Rome. Leaving our 14 yr old home with friends & family.
|
March 2006 first trip overseas ever!
Rome, Bologna, Venice |
We're going April 16 for 24 days. Landing in Nice, taking 5 days thru Liguria incl. Cinque Terre, a week in a villa in northern Tuscany, a week in southern Tuscany following maitaitom's itinerary pretty much and ending with 4 days in Rome. Been there several times before, but get excited every time.
|

You all are killing me. We have to wait until February of 2007 before we can go back (45th wedding anniversary).
We just came back in late October and I can't wait to go back. This time we will spend a week in Naples area ending up in Rome for a day or two before flying back. Your all so lucky to go in 2006. |
My husband and I are planning to go to Rome in late March/early April, unless we change our minds for the thousandth time.
|

I will be there January 17-24th. Florence, Rome, then a couple days in Barcelona. I'm amazed how much research I've had to do to prepare. In a way, the anticipation is part of the fun.

Hi LYB -- Re Why we are going to Trieste:
My daughter lives in Trieste, and we were able to get Delta business FF tickets in March, though on Air France, and time off from work. (Seems like everyone's trying to use up Delta Miles!) Our son used to work for the Jolly Hotel chain (the only Jolly in USA is in Manhattan, but there are many in Europe) and he can get us a discount, so we usually stay there, though we have stayed at the Alabarda etcetc. Trieste is relatively small city, but located near Croatia & Slovenia, so we've been able to take some interesting excursions. It's about a 2-hr train ride or 1 1/2 hour drive to Venice...we've done both. It's near Croatia & Slovenia, and we've done day trips as well as extended trips in the area. (Though if it's possible, i prefer Southern Italy!) Did you decide yet whether or not to go? Did you say you were going in Oct? The weather is beautiful, and not so many tourists. If you still want more info, let me know. |
Leaving for Sicily in two weeks to take my daughter over to her study abroad semester in Ortigia. I am going to be flying mainly to Rome in the upcoming months so if anyone is interested in getting a Fodies meeting together-let me know. I would love to finally put faces to the screen names ! Happy New Year everyone-
