wouldn't "irritating" be better used to describe the people whining on this board who aren't getting the a** kissing they deserve from their plebian friends and families for traveling to the oh-so-exotic locales of london, paris and rome?
they are all wonderful places - but adventurous and daring? hmm

Kudos to you Holly. Noone has answered your question here and it is a valid one. The topic of being adventurous is relative I agree. It depends on your customs, your willingness to challenge your mind, your ability to seek out new cultures and areas of the world that are foreign to you. Going to the same destination in Europe each year may be adventurous to some - others not so. You can go to the same place each year maybe in Europe and be adventurous - maybe it's befriending a local, learning the language or living in a town somewhere for a month getting to know the locals. Some may view being adventurous as hiking through the mountains of Sabah. It's hard to say - it depends on the individual. I personally travel one country at a time. To me, getting to know the locals and the culture (whether it is Paris or Bangkok or Rio) is my type of adventure.

Dawn -

You raised some good points. You also reminded me that some of the traveling I have done in the right here in the U.S. (backcountry camping, particular hiking trips) have been more challenging (both mentally and physically) than most of my European travels.
