I visited Ireland a few weeks ago. I saw an abundance of yellowing flowering bushes. Someone told me you can make wine from the flowers but only when it blooms in the spring. It re-blooms in the fall but you can't use it to make wine then. Does anyone know the name of this bush?

I don't know what the yellow flowers are, but I was also recently in Ireland and I saw lots and lots of little pink flowers. They looked like clover to me, but a passerby said they were primroses. Does anyone know what these flowers are?

I remember the same beautiful, vibrant, butter-yellow flowers when I was there in April 2002. My mom thought it was gorse, but we never verified it. Here's an upclose pic, though!

3/4 down the page (in the Ring of Kerry section, April 25th) is a close up of this yellow flower and a stone. Part of the flower is out of focus, but part is in focus. That should help identity!

I think there are 2 names for it my Cavan father has a name I can't recall and I think the other is Broome. There was a thread ages ago about this possibly last year. I know the summer is coming when I see the yellow flowers!

No naturalist, but isn't broom twiggier, without the gorse spikes and much more like winter jasmine?

Though apparently there are people who make wine from broom. As well as from gorse.

I was told this April, they are gorse. Aren't they pretty.
