Ireland: Killorglin, Dingle Peninsula to Ennistimon

After driving the Ring of Kerry we plan a night at Killorglin. The next day we will tour the Dingle Peninsula. A number of fellow travelers have suggested two night on the peninsula, some have suggested the peninsula and then driving to the Cliffs of Moher.

By pressing on we have additional nights for County Clare and Galway. Are we being a penny wise and a pound foolish with our time? The days we spend touring in a car don't seem to invite returning to a town or lodging.

Opinions, experiences, suggestions, irate exasperation at settling for a day on the Dingle Peninsula? All comments are appreciated.

Two days on the Dingle peninsula are well worth it. The town is lovely to walk and the drive around the tip was gorgeous, with breathtaking views and charming towns and ruins to see along the way. We stayed at the Greenmount House B&B, a lovely place with great views and amazingly delicious breakfasts.
Enjoy.

Fortunately I have seen most of the Island of Ireland so Dingle is just one of those places tourists go.. Fine for a night, but be honest the tour bus takes 4 hours to see the place. Slea Head is nice, there are a couple of great beaches, The Connor pass is nearly as good as the Healy pass on Beara. Oh St Rick of Steves thinks it's the centre of the universe Ireland wise and there is a Dolphin in the bay. Now I will get a bucket full of abuse because Dingle is also the only place on the Island of Ireland that is sacrosanct.

My usual recommendation is to drive from Killarny, around Dingle to Ennis which is a great touring base for Clare. If you are planning on Connemara then this is 3 times the area of Dingle but few would suggest spending 6 days of your holiday around there.

I could not have hoped for more divergent responses, both of which are appreciated. Dingle does beckon, but I am beginning to think that after the Beara, Iveragh, and Dingle we may be ready for new terrain, and an escape from tourist buses. Keeping the Dingle peninsula to a day will allow us to spend a night or two on the Arans. Tony2phones, I believe we will head up to Clare, but Ennistymon in place of Ennis. Andy7, we will take time to walk the town and appreciated the breathtaking views across the peninsula.

Thanks to you both for the recommendations.

Ennistymon is fine nice old market town and handy for west Clare coastline, some nice pubs, good photo shoot of the waterfall and the chance to chat to the locals.

My Suggestion for Ennis as a touring base is for the whole of Clare, including the bits over here in East Clare by Lough Derg Not that we get many tourists this side apart from the outdoors type and for a couple of festivals.

You don't need to avoid tour bus's on Beara because there aren't any (thankfully) http://www.tripadvisor.ie/ShowTopic-...unty_Cork.html
