Insane schedule?

If you have a car, as Steve points out, it's a piece of cake. My estimate for the total driving time from Rome to Todi, Spoleto and Assisi is 3-3:30 hours, including looking for parking. If you allow for a 10-hour journey this would give you at least 6 hours to explore both cities.

By train out from Rome it's still "doable" but I'm afraid you'll have to start very early. You could take the 7:12am train out from Rome, change in Terni, and arrive in Todi at 9:17am. You may leave at 1:32pm, change in Perugia, and arrive in Spoleto at 3:29pm. The 6:45pm train out from Spoleto would leave you in Assisi at 7:25pm, after a quick change in Foligno.

You may eventually find a bus service between Todi and Spoleto, which could in principle be more convenient than the train.

Paulo

I say Well Done!

For Assisi, I recommend Hotel Umbra, and Piazza Matteotti for parking your car. See www.assisi.com/mappamaster.html to get oriented to where that is (map 5).

Best wishes,

Rex
Matt, you should make sure to take the cave tour in Orvieto. It's really interesting. We loved Orvieto, stayed there for 3 nights & did day trips from there. Your itinerary sounds great & doable to me! Although just driving though Chianti would not be enough for me. It's just too beautiful & there are just too many wonderful wineries.
