Since it's a fantasy...
Either Nice or Paris (the 6th or the 3rd) for most of the year, then a small villa in Ravello or Positano for the summer. Ah, dream on... |
I'm with jmb67....Tuscany near Florence.....
|
Sorrento in the old town, or Rome near the Borghessi and park.
|
In Dorset, nr Shaftesbury and Sturminster Newton..the Fiddleford would be my local and Plumber Manor would be my night out restaurant...then of course there is a good connection to airports so I could fly off to my pieds a terre in Paris and Rome
|
Paradise for me would be:-
The year split 3 ways in Europe House - central CHELSEA LONDON -April - may -June -july Aprtment in Trastevere ROMA - AUG-SEPT -OCT- NOV SKI Chalet - Near Zermatt DEC - jAN - FEB -MAR That would do it! |
Seville -but i would need air conditioning
|
Cassis for 3 months, Menaggio for 3 months, Paris for 3 months with weekends in Honfleur, Venice for 3 months. Repeat each year. Now and then vacation in Positano and Garmisch. Periodic trips to Spain.
|
Spain...not sure exactly where, but am in the process of finding out...
but not in the summer... in the summer I wouldn't want to live anywhere other than where I do...Seattle |
Well is nice to dream.. So many places to choose. I will love to have a villa overlooking Portofino, with a large terrace, flowers everywhere, and of course a pool.
A rustic, cozy chalet in the Alps to spend the Christmas Holidays, beautiful apt. overlooking the Pantheon in Rome, with a large terrace, actually a fancy penthouse will be nice, and |
my cats pushed the computer mouse sorry...
and of course, how i can forget Paris? a large condo overlooking the Eiffel Tower.... These are my wishes, if I wish upon a star perphas........? |
I already have it picked out. It is on the hill near Mt. Bre in Lugano. I love the location for train travel to my favorite parts of Europe.
|
An apartment in the 7th, with a balcony, and a bastide in Provence for the weekends. And a whitewashed house on some Greek island that isn't teeming with tourists for the summer! Dream on!
|
London :)
And since money is no object, I would like the South Kensington area. It's very posh of course but I like the idea of being close to my favorite places - Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. |
My first choice would be London; second choice, Amsterdam.
|
I used to think retiring to a little cottage in Devon/Cornwall by the sea. But after some serious thought(once I almost put an offer on one property),it was very likely I would get bored after some time.
London is where I would choose now: A houseboat on the Thames, easy access to the U.K.waterways. Countless lectures, concerts and exhibitions, most vibrant City. Cheapflights to everywhere in Continent. |
Too easy a question, as I've already planned for the future. In the Dordogne, in my house in St-Cirq.
Interesting that no one else has mentioned the Dordogne. I guess it isn't the retirement mecca I was so worried about. I'd take loads of trips from my base there, though, to places I've always wanted to visit - Croatia, Slovakia, Poland, the Czech Republic (been there but before the fall of The Wall), Greece (been there, too, but too long ago), and Turkey (also been there and loved it but want to go back). I'd look at it as a base for wanderings far and wide in Europe and then elsewhere. |
Before I make my definitive choice, I would have to check out some of the places noted here in France. Have always heard that the S. of France is tops for retirement. We are planning on Florence countryside, but if money is no object I would have to say S. of France. Wherever that spot was in French Kiss would be just fine with me. As long as I can be with my children and DH, any place is good.

I have lived in Paris and Geneva, and would go back to either in a second!
I prefer cities, and ADORE Paris, and speak French, so it's not a hard decision for me. I think I'd be happy in any of about a dozen major cities though (Zurich, Vienna, Prague, Rome . . . ). But if money is no object, I'll take one of each, and vacation homes in Provence, Tuscany . . . |
After visiting Amsterdam in April, my husband remarked that he could imagine living there even more than London and I agreed. It's a very livable city, progressive, energetic, and lovely.
I decided to post this before viewing other responses so now I'm curious how others have answered. Actually, Italy is my favorite European country...love the people, food, romance, emotion, etc., but can't imagine living there--language being one reason. In Amsterdam, English was spoken everywhere and I felt very comfortable and accepted. |
Hi all,
Definitely Paris. I have a place picked out overlooking the Parc Monceau. Can anyone loan me about 13,000,000 Euros? |
