Ibiza or Mallorca: Which island would you pick in Spain?

If you could pick only one -- Mallorca or Ibiza -- to stay, which would you choose??

We love beautiful, clean landscape, but also enjoy going out dancing, etc.

Thanks for your help!

what time of year? how old are you? what time of year? how long can you stay? want to "stay put" or bop around?

do you like to visit other cultural places besides coast?

mallorca is a lot bigger, mountainous and has more "to do and see" but ibiza and formentera are nice for partying in summer months. mallorca has plenty of nightlife, too, though.

Thanks, casanova! Definitely want to go when it's not TOO hot. April/May or October/November.

Yes, maybe Mallorca is better because we would love to explore nature in addition to the partying. We are in our 30s and do love cutting-edge electronica/dance music.

Cheers!

Ibiza is most definitely "party central" for Europe.

Thanks, Dukey. Not sure if we need "party central", but cool music is definitely a plus.

We stopped at both places on our Windstar cruise this past September. For me, it is hands down Mallorca if you want beautiful landscape. We were really excited about Ibiza, especially doing some clubbing at night, but just didn't get it when we were there. I understand the appeal of the anything goes party atomsphere and old town had great character, but there are so many more beautiful places IMHO. We loved Mallorca as it was beautiful landscape, a lot to do and see, so if it has a nightlife too, that's great.

ibiza is pretty dead before midnight , for partying, and in those months i think it will be very "tranquil". so, maybe mallorca will give you more of both. it is a busy place near palma, then spreads out all over.

you should be able to find some great english websites about anything you want to do there.

www.talonotel.com will have good hotel offers, as will www.gtahotels.com

I've never been to Mallorca but have been to Ibiza. We limited ourselves to sightseeing in Ibiza Town (we were on a cruise) and whatthere was to see could easily be done in a couple of hours IMO.

Nightlife was very much that: NIGHT-oriented and things didn't really get going until very late.

If others tell you that Mallorca has more to offer, especially landscape-wise, my tendency would be to go there rather than to Ibiza.

Mallorca has far more to offer, once you get away from the hotels on the coast. So up North and in the centre. Note that this is the main island for European Sun so booking in the summer is a must. I've stayed in two monestries and 4 B&Bs while biking around and seen not an inch of sizzling flesh.

Ibiza is party island and little else. No reason to go there for me

Thanks to all of you. Mallorca it is!! And if we have time, I'd like to see Formentera. I saw a movie that was shot on Formentera, and it looked very mysterious and interesting.

Cheers!

well, formentera is next to ibiza, not mallorca. perhap a short trip to Menorca would be nice. it is a lovely island, too, but really, mallorca has so much variety in scenery.. that i am not sure another island will seem like such a necessary visit.

Like the others I also say Mallorca, if you were going in July or August I would consider Ibiza. Don't expect too much nightlife during the time periods your looking at, I went once in May and it was dead compared to when I've gone back in July and August.

Casanova and Jeremy: Appreciate your input! I am purposely avoiding June through August in Spain because of the heat.

I remember being in southern Spain for two weeks in September, and feeling completely "knocked out" from the sun. Also, many places did not have AC, of course.

I look forward to going hiking, swimming, etc., around Mallorca. Also it seems like there would be enough nightlife that I don't have to worry about missing Ibiza. Cheers!

P.S. If anyone has recommended places to stay in Mallorca, I'd love to hear from you. I tend to avoid big-chain hotels in favor of cute inns or bed-and-breakfast places.

The answer is Ibiza .
Ibiza is a hotspot of best clubs in the world , in february i have had the same question like you and I start to search activities about both islands Mallorca and Ibiza , by chance I found one blog about Ibiza from one platform ibifast who have activity villa rental in ibiza and holiday services and after I read this blog I was sure 100%, I will choose Ibiza.

The other answer is that this thread is 8 and a half years old. And my answer is Mallorca. But not for the OP.

Mr_Scotch: Did you happen to look at the dates??? The OP's trip was almost 13 years ago . . .

It would be better to start a thread of your own asking what you actually want to know . . .

FORMENTERA has the best natural and not too crowded beaches.
But in early spring or late autumn, there will be absolutely nothing to do (except hiking on well sigmarked trails).
