Yes it's true. Boris' competition to design a new routemaster for london has been won by a joint bid by Aston Martin and Lord Richard Rogers.

Beat that!

Next we'll get Bentley to design our dustcarts and Rolls Royce to design our milk floats.

You royals can blow it up your noses. If you are riding a British vehicle bring a spanner (wrench). BTW, our colonials won the war against your hired Germans.

Does that mean that the seats will be on the outside?

DeLorean cars were designed by Lotus.

The newer streetcars in Vienna were designed by Porsche. And 150 of them are up and running, not still in the design stage.

Aston Martin makes a nice car, so hope they make a nice bus too.

But as for Bentleys, thought they were part of the VW family.

Are you talking about those buses that don't bother to run on December 25-26?

But you want to watch out for the machine guns in the headlights and the rocket launchers in the Oyster reader machines....

Routemasters were supposed to be getting phased out because the EU's banning buses you can fall off. People who like Routemasters like them precisely because you can fall off them - or rather jump on to them at traffic lights.

Now you can fall off/jump on the Aston Martin design - so was this "new EU law" stuff always hokum - ie, Livingstone was a lying toerag? Or is the Aston Martin plan just a stunt - ie Boris is simply a self publicising hot air merchant?

Tough to decide, no?

I don't care who is making the buses, but YAY for the return of Routemasters. I love jumping on/off those, though perhaps I'm not as agile as I was 15 years ago.

>> ie Boris is simply a self publicising hot air merchant?<<

I believe there is intense scientific debate about the origins of mysterious deposits found in the woods, and quite what is going through the mind of a man who appears to millions in Rome in fancy robes.

As I understand it, it isn't a design for production it's a design concept. And since it's resulted in a bus that carries fewer people at twice the staffing cost of the buses it's intended to replace, I'm not holding my breath. Mind you, I do still have the skills to get on and off a moving bus. Like this:

I thought the problem wasn't the platform but the fact that it was impossible to get on a routemaster in a wheelchair.

The Aston designed bus has an enterence halfway down the side for wheelchairs.

Perhaps we could get TVR to design our steam rollers?

Thank you PatrickLondon for giving us a Sunday laugh! How do you do that? I mean send on a sketch from a TV show?

We haven't got any freekin' milkfloats

Youtube is a wonder, Tod, but I don't like to ask where people get the original recordings or what the copyright implications might be.

It even attracts people whose hobby appears to be making videos of dustcards:

A dustcart is what the dustmen throw the rubbish from dustbins in to the back of. Then it makes growly noises and crushes up the rubbish.

I know you have these in America - I've seen 'em on the telly.

BTW All our fire engines are called Dennis. I think they maybe designed by Morgan.

I am staggered by the fact that there are so many videos of dustcarts on you tube. It's clearly a niche interest.

It's easy to spot a dustman in England. He will be wearing a dustman's hat as well as gorblimey trousers, and he'll live in a council flat.

The gorblimey trousers are, no doubt, designed by Vivienne Westwood.

Love them and Vienna's Porsche models, too. Envious. Will there be someone at the hop-on platform taking tickets?
