How to spend a week between Barcelona and Granada?

How to spend a week between Barcelona and Granada?
My boyfriend and I are arriving in Barcelona on the 19th Sept. We have no plans scheduled prior to Sept 27th upon which we are joining a 6 day cycle trip between Granada and Ronda - therefore we will do an indepth sightseeing tour of Andalucía at that time.
How should we spend the week prior? Prefer to drive as we love getting into lesser known areas. Zaragoza, Pamplona, Alicante, Valencia, Malaga, Cadiz?????
We have a few days after the cycle trip to get from Ronda to Seville and then a couple days in Madrid as we are flying back to Canada from there.
We are young 50-something adventurous people. Love experiencing the culture and food of new destinations. We figure 2-3 days in both Barcelona and Madrid is enough. Its how to fill in the time between! Thank you in advance for any and all input!

Since you will see the south from up-close and for many days, just make sure you see the Alhmabra before pedalling off.
I never tire of Barcelona and the museums in Madrid, so 2, 3 days is not enough especially when you take day trips to the nearby towns.

If you have the time, then I would head to up into the Aragon Pyrenees and cross over into the Navarran Pyrenees before heading south. If you can be in Logroño, in the Rioja Alavesa, for the wine festival between the 18th and 22nd, you will have a great time.

You land in Barcelona to the start of the greatest festival of the year, La Mercè, towards the end of September. Celebrated in honour of the city patron the Virgen of Mercy every September since 1902. All kinds of events and activities for more than a week, and a great opportunity to experience the local culture and food.
