We stayed at the Coach House, it was close to a good Pub and the B&B was great! The web page is below.

Thanks, HannaHall, for your response. I looked at it online, although it exceeds our budget. Most everything does, however. The difference in cost for lodging just since we last went three years ago is astonishing, even taking into account the decline of the dollar vs. the euro. We're looking at the Mayors Walk House, a modest B&B just up the hill from the shopping center. Sometimes we find that the little places have the most interesting people running them. I guess we'll find out.

I am glad you did find something you liked. We feel the same way about prices! We last went to Ireland 2 years ago and are going back at the end of March. The prices with the exchange rate really are making things much higher. We have been to Ireland 6 times over the last 10 years. Things have really changed!
Have a great trip!

We stayed in Waterford in April 2003 at a hotel. It left a lot to be desired. All the other hotels were very expensive and it was too late to bang on doors to B&Bs. Wish we had gotten in earlier and stayed at a B&B. The hotel sucked for many reasons.
(I forget the name though it used to be a Jury's at one time. It's high on a hill overlooking Waterford. If you are in the area, stay clear of it.)

That hotel is Jurys, The ardrie. Changes it names so many times anyway! It's being renovated at the moment. Not sure why anyone would want to stay off up on that hill however. Stayed there once (after a christmas party) and found it fine.
The Mayors Walk is very central!

I appreciate the responses from everyone. The process of choosing accommodation is one that causes you to examine your priorities. We looked at, even booked the Granville, which looks beautiful, but then the Mayor's Walk appeared. I know it's not as fancy, but it is well located, we'll be in two rooms and not crammed into one undersized hotel room, and we'll get to know the people at the B&B just a little better, I think. Plus, it's a whole lot less expensive, and, as long as a room meets minimum standards, it's really just a place to get a night's sleep. So, especially with the current prices in Ireland, we'll save the extra money for activities and meals that are special.
