May I have a recommendation for a decent hotel in St. Petersburg, Russia. My budget is around $150 - $200 U.S. I've researched and research but would like some first hand recommendations of a nice place that made your stay happy. That's how I like to choose hotels and haven't been disappointed yet. I will be there mid-September. I will need a double room (2 people). Thank you.

Wanda-take a look at this hotel, Comfort. Someone recommended a while back and I have reservations there for 5 nights in August--great location, looks good, easy to book on internet, breakfast and taxes included for about $155US a night.

Jane - Please let us know how this hotel is and have a great trip!
Wanda, we just returned! The Comfort was just fine. The location could not be better--half way between Nevsky Prosket and St Issac's Square, on the same street as the Astoria! Real plants and flowers in lobby and breakfast tables--free internet--English spoken--helpful staff--nice size room and bath--comfortable beds--ok breakfast. AND best of all, when we made the reservation, the price was 4800R ($154US)(we had to pay in advance for one night). By the time we made the trip, 4800R was $177US. But the hotel only charged us 4600R which was still $154US!! What a surprise!
BTW, if you use USAA ATM card, you will not be able to get cash in Russia or any former Russian countries! We were surprised and not very happy since USAA did not inform us of this when I called them prior to making the trip. We were able to cope since we take lots of cash from habit and we just happened to have another ATM card from a small local bank where we live. I will report on this later.
Also, there are 2 "Gold Tours' in the Hermitage--one for Sicithian gold and another for Romonof gold. I did not know this and we happened to get the Sicithian gold tour when we signed up.
