This will be our first trip to europe...we are looking for a couple of centrally located, medium priced hotels in Amsterdam and Paris. Any cool places you would recommend?? Thanks for your help!

Hi brian
Could you define "medium-priced"?--it varies from person to person.
There are many many Paris hotel recommendations in previous postings on this forum. You can do a Search
for Paris hotels.
I've copied a bunch of them into my Paris file; if you'd like to see it, email me.

Brain.. you need to re-post and list Moderate priced Amsterdam and Paris hotels needed. You'll get a better response.

Some rooms in Amsterdam and Paris are about $50 US. Some go for $1200 per night. I suppose $600 US is considered moderate? That is half way between. What do you mean by central in Amsterdam--near the train station? And in Paris, does central mean near Montmarte?

I highly recommend the Best Western Museum in Amsterdam. A great moderately-sized hotel with a superb in-house restaurant (some of the best food I had in Belgium/Neth) at low prices, and within walking distance of the main museums (Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh) and near a tram line, just outside the main canal ring, as I recall. I don't know the price but I stayed there some years ago when I was a lot poorer than now, so I'm sure it is moderate (and can be reserved thru their 800 number, or see www.bestwestern.com). My only qualification is that it was about ten years ago, so things could have changed, but the description and pictures on their web site still look good. I don't know if I'd call it cool, though, not sure what you mean by that, it wasn't a "hip" place for young backpackers or anything if that's what you want (which I didn't, so I liked it). Unfortunately, I know a whole lot more about Paris so couldn't recommend anything there without more specifics, as others have suggested.

Hi Brian:
I am not sure of your idea of cool but here's my recommendations:
Amsterdam: The Doelen run by the Golden Tulip chain www.goldentulip.com. It is 2 or 3 trams stops from the train station. Newly renovated and has a nice restaurant and pub attached. Close to everything.
Paris--Aramis Ste Germain run by Best Western www.bestwestern.com. Very French. Lots of charm. Great staff. Metro Stop right across the street. Buses run right in front. Plenty of lovely restaurants very close by. Have a great trip!
