Hi, Im new to the forums here and after reading some posts and seeing the really helpful advice given - I would really appreciate some help with my Honeymoon.

We are going to Paris either in August, September or October this year for about a week or so and i dont have any ideas about where to stay. As I said before, its our Honeymoon and I want somewhere to stay thats not too expensive but pleasant....near the tourist spots would be great..Say around $200 US or even alittle more.

Should We stay in a Hotel or Private apartment ??

Any help would be great !

Hi Aussieimac; Try this for an apartment at 140 euro. vrbo.com/70223 Great location and there are many more apartments to view. In August and perhaps September, you will want air conditioning.

Mid-Sept to mid-Oct is better than August.

A hotel provides amenities that you won't get in an apt (daily maid service, bkfst, concierge) that makes a honeymoon much nicer.

We always stay at the Hotel Bonaparte, 61 Rue Bonaparte in the 6th. From 128E dbl w/bkfst. It is located near 3 metro stops. Has AC and an elevator.

Hi Chris,

I am in the process of writing a rather lengthy trip report titled Paris, March 2008. In it, I discuss our hotel, Caron de Beaumarchais, at length. It may be a little over your budget at 170 euro (about $263 US) per night, but it would be a perfect honeymoon hotel! Very charming, quaint and romantic. In any case, the Marais (4th district) in general is a fabulous honeymoon destination...young, fun and romantic. Tourists? Yes, but plenty of French (when I was there, mostly French) as well. If Caron is out of your budget, I encourage you to look at other hotels in the Marais. Hotel Jeanne d'Arc is recommended.

I think an apartment for a visit to Paris is a great idea, but not for a honeymoon. No one should have to make his or her own bed or clean up the bathroom while on honeymoon!

I agree with Ira that September/October would be a better time for your trip. I have never been to Paris in the summer, but my teenage daughter has, and says that it is a completely different (better and happier) city outside of the summer months.

I'd agree with the time of year stated above. Area wise, I'd agree that the 4th, 5th or 6th would be ideal. Plenty of cafes/restaurants and nightlife, as well as being walking distance to some of the sites.

I like the Ile St Louis area because it is so central, a nice main street with good restaurants, cheese/chocolate/ wine store, less busy at night and all in all a nice neighbourhood feel to it, but prices are a bit higher than your budget. You might have a look at Hotel St Louis, Deux-Iles and Lutece.

Trip Advisor is a good site to get some feedback on any of your choices.

I'd do an apartment--you are left alone and if you decide to stay in bed all day or at "odd" hours, not have to worry about maid service barging in--yes, they will ignore the do not disturb in the middle of the day thinking you forgot to take it down, despite calls to the front desk stating that you don't want your room cleaned.

you also are left to yourselves--no other people around the hotel, can pretend you are a local, etc. have wine, champagne, whatever in the fridge at your disposal.

If you want maid service, most places can arrange so it isn't like you are hanging out cooking and cleaning the apt all the time.

just my opinion.

I'm with Cherrybomb....apartments are great. Usually larger than a hotel room, more private, you feel more like a "Parisian" vs a hotel guest, have your own mini fridge, etc. http://www.vacationinparis.com is nice place to rent from, you pay in advance in dollars vs euros, and have key prior to leaving the states. Likely you can find a place within your budget. We stayed in the 7th arrondissment and it was about 5-7 minute walk to the Eiffel Tower.

Hotel Splendid is nice close to the tower.
Also one called Paris Hotel is nice right in the middle of everything small quite.

Paris is wonderful in the fall!

I would rent an apartment and go in September or October... August may be very,very hot. I love to stay in an apartment, it makes me feel 'at home'...it is lovely to have breakfast at home and plan the day, to pick up some delicious food at a market for a dinner or perhaps a decadent and romantic late evening repast....

The Paris Metro system is so excellent that I feel it makes little difference if you stay anywhere in Arrondissements 1-9. You can walk from the furthest place to another in a half hour. My personal choice (within these Arr.) would be the 5th (Latin Quarter) or the 2nd, 3rd, 4th (the Marais). I find the 6th and 7th too touristy with prices to match. Perhaps not for this trip, but later you may want to stay in the 10th (Canal Saint Martin), 11th, less visited parts of the 18th, and the 19th and 20th.

Within Arrondisments 1-9, here are 2 of my favorite apartments...

1. www.vrbo.com/49273 (in the Marais, beautiful). Look at all of the apts on this site.

2. www.parisattitude.com----#114...(Latin Quarter, beautiful!) Again, check all apartments.

3. ANY of www.perfectlyparis.com

All three sites are excellent.

If you prefer a hotel, I don't want to discourage you...there are many beautiful hotels in your price range. The Canon du Beaumarchais looks lovely but perhaps expensive. I'lll check my folder and get back with a few hotel thoughts....Paris is beautiful and you will love it.
