Helsinki to Tallin - How much time? Day-trip or 1-2 nights in Tallin?
Hello.
I will be staying in Helsinki for three nights in April and would like to visit Tallin in Estonia right across the Gulf of Finland. For anyone that has done this trip, is a day-trip sufficient or would 1 or 2 days in Tallin be better? Is there enough to do and see to keep a person busy for that amount of time? Any comments/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks very much.

We did it in a day, arriving at 6 a.m. from St. Petersburg by train and leaving in the late afternoon by ferry. But given the developments in Estonia since 1995, and overnight might be better.

Tallinn's old town is relatively compact and can be seen in a day. I would still do one overnight in order to capture the spirit and atmosphere of the city.
If you decide against spending the night over there, you should take one of the fast ferries rather than the conventional ones to save time on the passage (although I'd prefer the pace and fresh air of a conventional ship if I were not in a rush).

Tallin would be a great place for an overnight. Not sure about ferries, but a flight is one hour plus airport time, total four hours. www.inyourpocket.com/estonia/tallinn
