Help with Normandy

I need help with Normandy. We will be traveling by train ( without a car) and are looking for a good base town or area to explore the WWII monuments etc. Any help would be great, as I am totally unfamiliar with this area. Thanks.

Thanks for the advice. Do you remember the name of the tour company? Also, how long is the train ride from Paris to Bayeaux and what is the name of the train station there? Thanks.

MKS:

Was in bayeux last summer for 4 days. We stayed at the Lion d'Or ( approx. 80 t0 100 US per day). Great hotel, good location. Bayeux is a beautiful town , perfect for walking. Train station is about one mile from city center. Easy to get taxi to town or to D-Day beaches. Train took about 2 hours from Paris (not exact). Information center in town is very helpful. Beautiful atmosphere and scenery around . NOrmandy is amazing. Suggest side trip to Honfleur. Hope this helps. Have fun.

Check out www.busfly.com which I found in the Normandy website (www.normandy-tourism.org). It is a local tour orgnization with resonable prices. We might be using them but not till June. If you go before then let me know how they are.
