Help with Agriturismo in Sicily
We are planning a 2 week + tour of Sicily the end of Sept. arriving in Palermo Airport and would like to stay in Agriturismo/B&B places. Trying not to move too often, we will have a car. Can anyone recommend places to stay (preferably that serve breakfast) outside Palermo (to visit Palermo, Monreal, Cefalu); Trapani/Marsala (to visit Erice, Trapani, Segesta, Marsala & Selinunte); Ragusa area(we would like to see Piazza Armerina, Ragusa, Noto & Siracusa from this location) and finally Taormina/Milazzo area. I have already been on the Agriturismo site but there were little, if no comments from tourists. We will be flying home from Catania so we will stay there at the end of the trip. Appreciate any input and suggestions.
Thank you,
Rose

outside Piazza Armerina is the agriturismo Gigliotti.
We stayed at the agriturismo Limonetto (check my trip report for accurate spelling), which was close to Siracusa and could surely be used as a base for S-E Sicily (Noto, etc.) but that I would consider far for Piazza Armerina and Caltagirone unless you like driving on the autostrada. I believe that it also has a swimming pool.
If I recall correctly, Gigliotti accepted credit cards. Limonetto claimed that the machine did not work very well and clearly preferred cash.

bon_voyage....what would you suggest. We certainly are open to other ideas especially from experienced travelers.
Michael, I considered Gigliotti but decided it was just too far for our day trips. I'm trying to keep the daily driving times from our base to not more than one hour. Perhaps we need to break up that area and stay at Gigliotti for 2 nights and another place near Siracusa for 3 nights as you suggested. Was hoping to avoid packing the car and moving luggage. I'll check out Limonetto. Does your trip report have the web address?

I'd stay in Palermo and pick up the car at the airport on leaving. We stayed in the Grand Hotel Wagner and really liked its location near Politeama Square between the old and new cities. Other hotels in that area are the Plaza Opera, Garibaldi, and Joli. There are likely B&Bs in that general area if that's your preference. We didn't have enough time for Monreale or Cefalu but learned that it's easy to get to Monreale by bus from Palermo (I think it's something like 20 minutes) and to Cefalu by train. You'll find my trip report if you click on my name.
