HELP WHERE DO I FLY INTO
Going to southern Germany (Lake Constance area). What is the best airport to fly into from Toronto. Canada? I know Zurich is closer, what about Stuttgart, or Frankfurt?
Need to keep it cheap, but hate the thought of stops enroute.

Thanks for comments... Flying from Toronto Canada to southern germany, and will return same route. (planning 2-3 week stay, if money holds out).
Specifically going to Volkertshaussen, but am going to tour all the southern area while there. Heidelburg, Rothenburg,Freiburg, Konstanz, Linderhof castle, Neuschwanstein, Zurich, etc.
Was concerned about the flights, big bucks, and hate non-direct flights.
Suppose the accomodations are big bucks too. Any help will be appreciated.

Well now, we still don't know WHEN you'll be traveling and WHEN can make a significant difference in airfares. Are we talking high season, shoulder season or off season? The $800 to $900 dollar flight in August may only cost $350 to $400 in March. To add to your concerns, from May 21 to just prior to mid-month October, the Passion Play will be performed daily in Oberammergau. A once every ten year event it is anticipated to attract thousands daily to the area. You can look forward to increased costs for accommodations in Upper Bavaria and inordinately long lines of tourists at sites such as Linderhof and Neuschwanstein. Tell us WHEN an we can be more informative.

You might want to look into car rental rates before you decide where to fly into (assuming you are renting a car). Usually, prices are less expensive in Germany than Switzerland. If that be the case, I would fly into Stuttgart, which is a great airport.

Hope this helps.
Frankfurt is generally one of the cheaper airports to fly into, but maybe not the "best" for your travel plans. You should be checking with the various airlines that service Toronto/Germany. Your dates are high season, if money is big concern, could you consider going earlier (end of May, beginning of June)??

There is another option. We used Sabena Airlines to get to Freiburg, so if you could start there... Sabena would take you to Brussels, where you would connect to Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg airport, which is just outside Basel (just inside the French Border). Take the quick shuttle to the Basel train station and then on to Freiburg or wherever. Basel is a main station for train routes and is 1/2 hour or so from Freiburg.
