berlin to prague car rental
We are traveling from berlin to prague and then catching a flight out of prague. We would prefer to drive (opposed to train, flight). Anyone have insights into:
-on-eay car rental
-the ease of the drive
-taking a european car into Czech Republic
I'd appreciate all insights!

You'll have a large drop off charge for renting in one country and returning it to another country. It's so easy to take the train and will be less expensive.
For car rentals try AutoEurope - that's who I used in the Czech Republic.

The Czech Republic is in Europe. It's one of the Schengen countries and one of the European Union countries. Why do you think the CR is not part of Europe?

I believe I was charged either 90 euros or 90 dollars (Can't remember which) extra for picking up a car in Germany and returning it in Austria.
I generally use AutoEurope, but I've used Europecar also.
I second the recommendation for taking the train. I have driven in many large cities--Munich, Vienna, Madrid, etc., but I don't like doing it, since I don't know my way around. I find it easier to pick the car up and drop it off at the airport. That's generally more expensive, and then I have to take a train or a bus back to town, which of course costs even more.

Eg: SIXT car rental (www.sixt.com)
One way rental- yes, $70 per day one way rental fee.
Ease of drive -easy
Yes, depending on class of car you can take it and leave it in the Czech Republic.

We would prefer to drive (opposed to train, flight). Why?
How many days of travel and what are you intending to see between Berlin and Prague? If only the highlights, such as Dresden, it would be better to go by train.

If you must drive, I'd re common driving the car from Berlin to Dresden, turning the car in there, and raking the train from Dresden to Prague. You'll avoid much of the one-way fees and the trip from Dresden to Prague is only 2 1/2 hours if you take an express train.

Thank you for all your replies. We have set aside 6 days to see the two cities (Berlin and Prague). We would prefer to drive because we've heard the trip between the two cities is beautiful, and it would give us the flexibility to stop where we want, including perhaps Dresden and/or Leipzig.
Another idea I'm considering is hiring a driver to drive us. I have heard of "cz shuttle," but does anybody know a reputable company and or driver that does that drive?

Absolutely. Mike's Chauffeur service.

If you only have 6 days to visit Berlin and Prague and plan to stop between them you will only get a very quick glimpse of either city. I'm planning 8 days in Berlin and find it difficult to choose what to omit from my itinerary. I'd recommend 3 to 4 days in Prague. I'll be in Dresden for 5 days.
A car service will be expensive as you'll have to pay for the driver's food and lodging on top of the basic car fee.
You can easily stop in Dresden and Leipzig when traveling by train.
