We just arrived back from Paris. We stayed in a charming hotel that was recommended to us. It is called Atoile Maillot and it is just a few blocks from the Arc de Triumph. It was only $110 per night. They have a web site so you can book on line.

Hi travelman<BR>Here is some starting advice.<BR>Do a search here (at the top of this page) for Paris hotel. You should get zillions of past suggestions, most budget-minded. You will see 5-10 hotels that are mentioned the most frequently. You might also want to look for mention of hotel features that are important to you, for example, elevator, air conditioning. Many small hotels in the one or two star range do not have a/c. Also go elsewhere on Fodors.com and look for the hotel Rants and Raves comments, concentrating on those same 5-10 hotels.<BR>Then start contacting those hotels for availability because many of them will have already started taking reservations for next June which is a busy month. When you inquire, make sure that rather than &quot;double&quot; room you specify that you want a room for two people, with one large or two twin beds, whichever is the case. Also specify that you want a shower. Many rooms will have a tub or a shower, but not necessarily both. Be advised that in some budget hotels a shower is not a completly enclosed stall, but may in be just a part of the bathroom with a half partition and a drain in the floor. <BR>Other hotels will have a tub with a hand-held hose that you can use as a shower.<BR><BR>If you come up with a hotel dilemma once you've narrowed it down a bit, by all means ask for more input here.<BR>I hae a file on Paris; if you'd like to see it, email me.<BR>good luck

We've stayed at Relais du Louvre several times. Location's great , across the street from the Louvre and midway between Pont Neuf and Rue de Rivoli metro stops. Staff very helpful and it may well meet your cost requirement.

I don't get it. Since you say you know this subject has been done to death, then why don't you do a search and look at some of those dozens of threads which already answer your question? You can't plead ignorance since you've already admitted that you know it has been discussed at length.

Then what else could you be looking for? Elaine gave you wonderful advice, and you are ungrateful. Why would you not pick one of the top 10 that is so frequently mentioned on this board? Would you prefer the one that is 50th on the list so that you can comeback here and complain about it? Accept people's advice and don't be ungrateful.

Back to the question at hand....ita is right. The Grandes Ecoles doesn't have air conditioning. Sorry, I missed that in the original posting. However, I don't think that'll be a problem in early June.

Travelman could you please provide further information. All rooms have air, is it air conditioning that you are seeking? You mention a double room, are you seeking a room with 2 beds, a room with 1 bed that will sleep 2 or two connecting rooms, much like a suite? You are very unclear. Have you done any research at all? Possibly we could provide you with opinions of hotels you have an interest in. You say that you are traveling with someone special, do you want to stay in an area that has a large gay population, like the Marais? What type of ambiance are you looking for?<BR><BR>The suggestions that have been provided to you are excellent for the first time visitor to Paris. If you are expecting people to provide you with answers you will need to provide further details. We cannot pull rabbits out of hats, nor are any of us mind readers.

The Hotel de l'Universite (www.hoteluniversite.com), in the 7th, has everything you're looking for. I stayed there in February, so I have no first-hand experience of how well the air conditioning works, but their website says they have it. The single room I stayed in was extremely spacious by Paris standards, so if the double rooms are comparable, they should be a good size. If you're offered a choice between a higher-priced and a lower-priced room, I would recommend choosing the higher-priced room, assuming it's within your budget. When I called to make the reservation, I was offered a choice of two prices for a single room. I opted for the higher-priced room, and I was glad I did when I saw how big the room was.

Bree, I'm thinking about staying at the Hotel de l'Universite (most likely their top floor room for the family).<BR><BR>Are the bathrooms very modern-any shower guard or shower curtain provided also?

Paula, I remember the bathroom at the Hotel de l'Universite as being very bright, clean, and modern, but I'm drawing a mental blank when I try to visualize whether it had a shower curtain or shower guard. I don't remember having a problem with water splashing on the floor when I took a shower, so there probably was one, but at this distance of time I wouldn't swear to it.
