Help me get from Karlsruhe to London via ?? :)

I will be travelling with my hubby next October.

What is fixed is as follows -- help me with ideas for the blanks? We had thought of Strasbourg -- I also have a friend in Leipzig.

We like charming, historic & museums as well as good food & wine. And it needs to be easy to get back to London on that Sunday. ["easy" = not 8 hours on the train with 2 changes ] So that probably means flying. Ideas??

Fri -- to Antwerp
Sat -- Antwerp
Sun -- To Brugge
Mon -- Brugge
Tues --to Karlsruhe
Wed -- Karlsruhe
Thurs --??
Fri -- ??
Sat -- ??
Sun -- to London

Thanks -- that's helpful

What I am still looking for is what to do with those days? What makes sense given where we start [Karlsruhe] and where we need to end up? [London]

Well, if you want to stay not too far from Karlsruhe, you could got to Baden-Baden, or over to Strasbourg, or rent a car for a couple days and poke around the wine road through Alsace. It's very pretty in the region at that time of year.
If you did go by train (just "if&quot you could catch a train to Paris and change to the Eurostar or take a train to Brussels and again pick up Eurostar. But flying will be a lot easier, especially as you will be so close to Baden-Baden airport. If you opt not to fly by Ryanair, it's a fairly short train ride (less than an hour) from Karlsruhe to Frankfurt Airport, where there are plenty of flights to London.

Thanks for the ideas BTilke -- actually our plan is to spend only one night in Karlsruhe -- we're really going there to visit a friend. So there are really 3 full days to play with -- what would be interesting that we can get to by train from K-ruhe? Strasbourg has been on our list ...

btw the responses are helping me see how important it is to be speicif in your post

Considering that it takes only one hour
from Karlsruhe to Strasbourg, I would opt for the Alsace region. If you have time, travel also to Colmar and the neighboring towns, Riquewihr etc.. Lots of history, great food and wine.
After that go back to Karlsruhe and catch a Ryanair flight back home.
While it takes 4.5 hrs to get to Leipzig, this city probably does not compare to the Alsace region. But Ryanair also offers daily flights from Leipzig back to London.

With three days, I would do one day in Strasbourg, one in Baden-Baden (with a visit to the Caracalla spa to get the complete BaBa experience), and one day around the wine villages like Riquewihr. I would skip Colmar. I've only been there briefly, but didn't find it that appealing and I remember MaiTaiTom saying it was completely over-rated.

The area of the Black Forest delineated by Baden-Baden, Freudenstadt, Horb and Pforzheim is a wonderland for the nature lover. Take a car for three days and explore!

Does anyone have a good suggestion on a hotel/hostel in baden baden near the caracalla spa? We do not want to spend more than $90 USD.
We want to stay walking distance to the spa and casino in October also.
Thanks
