You should get the "Cheap Sleeps: Paris" guide. It gives hotels via location and lists prices, amenities, whether or not English is spoken, and gives a detailed description. It also suggests the better rooms and rooms you want to try to avoid. We have always found it very accurate. Also, keep in mind that a $125 dollar a night room in the states is not the same as a $125 room in Paris. Just accept that you will receive less and you'll be less disappointed. However, you will spend very little time at your hotel anyway, so don't let it worry you. Our first trip, we stayed at the Hotel de Nevers on the rue du Bac. Like the book said it did have dollhouse proportions, but it also had charm. Read through the book and find out what appeals to you. We always stay in the 7th arrondissement because it is relatively quiet, yet close to so much. I read some where in one of the other topics, that a newer version of the "Cheap Sleeps: Paris" book is coming out. You might check amazon.com to find out when. Also, if you are going in June - early July, book as soon as possible because in addition to all of the regular tourists, the World Cup is causing hotels to fill up quickly. Bon voyage!

What do you mean by 'reasonably priced'? I could recomend hotels that we have used from around ff450 to ff900.

We stayed in Paris during the first week of March at Hotel du Champ de Mars, 7 rue du Champ de Mars 75007
e-mail: [email protected]
phone: 01 5 51 52 80 It is 2-3 blocks from Eiffel Tour in an authentic neighborhood--stores and restaurants where the locals shopped. It is small but nice rooms. I think we paid 350F, which was very reasonable. We also spet 3 nights near Champs Elysee at Hotel Etoile Saint Honore (Best Western). It was a larger room nearly double the price and not as much atmosphere but nice.

I just returned from a trip to Paris. We spent MONTHS agonizing over a hotel. We selected the Peirere Etoile, it is a Quality Inn. Our cost was $95 per night and included breakfast. We were 1/2 mile from the Champs Elysees and even less from the Metro (though we chose to walk instead of riding the metro). The reason we selected this hotel is because it was a Quality Inn, we could call an 800 to book it and spoke to an english speaking person who quoted in US$$. Everyone at the hotel spoke English and the rooms were very clean. They were much what you would expect of a Quality Inn in the Staes except a bit smaller. We had a mini-bar and safe in our room. We left at 3:00 in the afternoon and walked everywhere from the Arc de Trimphe to the Eiffel tower and returned at 1:00 a.m. and loved it!!
