We are arriving London the day of the strike and had planned to take the Heathrow Express to Paddington, stowing our luggage (is this doable here?) and doing the sights around Trafalgar Square, The Palace, Westminister Abbey and high tea at Brown's Hotel then picking up our luggage and going to our hotel near Regent's Park. Without the tube,is this day realistic, will we be able to get taxis? We like to walk alot but is this unrealistic? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi again Bobbie,

There are still buses running. In fact even though they are considerably slower , you get to see the sights along the way. You are talking about a firly small area so you shouldn't have a problem. Your tube pass if you get one is alson good for the buses. HAVE FUN

I'm going to London in June (hope for no strike then!). You mentioned high tea at Brown's Hotel. Do you have any information on that? Sounds like something I'd like to do. Is there something special about high tea at that particular hotel? Thanks for any info! Have a good trip!

Pat: Just a word on tea at Brown's Hotel. I know there are some people that will argue with me, but I think it is the best afternoon tea in London. The atmosphere is like stepping into an Edwardian library, they have a pianist playing, the tea if very filling (tea, sandwiches, pastry)and it is so comfy on a rainy day in London. Make sure you make reservations. If only the United States would adopt the idea of afternoon tea!!

Hi Bobbie. Just checked out Philip's suggestion of Browns for an afternoon cuppa. Have never been there but it looks lovely on their website - www.brownshotel.co.uk. You can book afteroon tea direct - looks like they serve it in the Library. Sorry no advice on tube strike.
