Help

Help!! I have been dreaming of going to Greece for the past three years and am hoping to make it sometime this month! I havent booked anything but am hoping to sort out flights and hotel when i get to London.

I am planing on spending two to three days (in each place) in Athens, Santorini and Mykonos. I am really lost about how i can arrange flights and accomodation.

I know i could arrange a flight from London to Athens return, but once I get to Athens how to i go to Mykonos and Santorini. Would you guys recommend flight or boat? Also any recommendations on hotels?

Also I am traveling alone. Any pointers on the dos and donts (other than the usual).

Thank you!!

Why don't you try re-posting and put something like "help with planning vacation to Greece"...something that will highlight what you are asking. You will probably get better responses. Some people won't even open your post. Good luck.

Allegria,

I have been planning my honeymoon to Greece in late August/Sept of this year. We used frequent flyer miles to get into London and from London are flying to Athens and then on to Chios. We were able to plan most of our flights through Travelocity from London to Athens to Chios and the return trip. We had thought about going to Santorini and then on to Chios and it seems like every flight in Greece from island to island goes back through Athens. We couldn't find any direct flights from Santorini to Chios.
A friend of ours recommended we stay at the Royal Olympic in Athens as it is very close to The Plaqa, but there were no rooms available. Sorry I can't be of more help. Good luck with your trip.

As elaborated by others, in part already...

I realize that you are new here today (how do I know this? click on your own name - - this is a valuable tip that Fodor's fails to share with you when they send you the e-mail to confirm your registration).

but...

...here is a very helpful piece of advice for a novice: please re-post this message with a "header" that actually tells what info you are seeking. Not only are you much more likely to attract help from those who know about London, Athens, Mykonos and Santorini. As it is now, your post is quite inconsiderate - - it requires anyone who wants to know what you're asking - - to click on your post just to find out.

That's what headers are supposed to do.

I don't entirely blame you. Fodors is also remiss in not seeing that new registrants like yourself get introduced to tbe basic info - - available if you click on those tiny little red letters "HELP" in the upper left hand corner. Among other items, you can read there - - at http://www.fodors.com/forums/faqs.cfm#Q6 for example - - (my own emphasis added)...

&quot; Finally, create a title - make sure it is concise and clearly describes your message (<b>and destination</b>, if applicable)

Best wishes,

Rex

Now that everyone's told you how to behave, I have at least a few answers to your questions...

I would not wait until you get to London to plan your vacation, unless there's no way to nail down dates. You will pay top dollar for last-minute flights, and hotels book up in the summer time, particularly for the islands.

Check out venere.com for hotel ideas. We stayed at The Attalos Hotel in the Plaka neighborhood at the foot of the Acropolis in Athens, only paid $90/night for a double, and it had a lovely rooftop bar where you could have a drink at the end of the night and gaze at the Parthenon.

I would recommend flying for your short trips -- you'll lose days travelling by boat. One other option would be to take a NIGHT boat on your longest journey if you want to skip a hotel stay and get somewhere in the morning. If you go to Yahoo.com and search for &quot;greek ferry schedules&quot; you'll find plenty. Hellas is a biggie.

We went in 2003 and loved Greece. Give 3 days to Athens, and consider which islands you want to go to...Santorini is a party island and overrun with tourists due to its reputation (which isn't necessarily a bad thing if that's what you're into)...You can also do some research about Greece here on the Fodors site or over at Ricksteves.com just to name a couple.

Good luck,

Jules
