Good restaurant on/around Rue Cler

In July, we'll arrive at our hotel on Rue Amelie (7th e)about 7pm on the (if we're lucky), after leaving home the day before at noon. We have to go through London & on Eurostar, so I'm thinking we're going to be extremely tired, even if we do get some shuteye on the plane. But we'll be so happy to finally be in Paris!! I'm thinking we can go to our room, hopefully have energy to shower and change and then walk out near our hotel for dinner. Wondered if anyone has a suggestion for a restaurant in the vicinity...not a real expensive one because I don't think we'd do it justice because we'd be so tired! We're open to all types of food, except beef and snails. Thanks all for your help.

Bistrot du Breteuil gets good reports. It is on Place du Breteuil, not far from Rue Cler. It is 30 euros for a fixed menu. We will be going there in July also. Cafe du Marche, on Rue Cler, has reliable and inexpensive meals with good people watching thrown in.

Le Petit Troquet (spelling?) in the 7th is a wonderful, little restaurant. Dimly lit, great food, nice wine list and very reasonable prices. Watching the owner do her magic in making the place run like clockwork, all the while humming along with music on the radio is a sight to behold. Downsides? Recommended by Rick Steves, so plenty of us americans there on any given night; smoking allowed, so it can get heavy.

Another vote for Le Petit Troquet. After arriving in Paris for the first time this was our first night restaurant.

If you are going to be tired and maybe not all that hungry try LaTerrasse, a brasserie at the Ecole Militaire Metro. The food is reliable--actually good--and you can order what you want.

Petit Troquet and La Fontaine de Mars are in the 7th and not too far from the area of your hotel. Both are favorites. You should contact your hotel and ask them to make reservations.

Almost across the street from your hotel is the restaurant Petit Nicoise..very good seafood, nice staff.
Down rue Grenelle are two restaurants that we loved, Felice and Sud.
That would be the block before rue Cler, on the left if you are facing rue Cler.
On rue Exposition where Petit Troquet is, you will find Mi Casa en Sogovia? I have to look that one up, it is wonderful and the owner is a charmer..food is very good.
That is where the internet cafe is also.
You are just steps away from rue Dominique, there are tons of small bistros on that street. Down towards the big Blvd De La Tour Maubourg, you will find Cafe MauBourg, very very good crepes! and delicious lunches and dinners, sitting in the glass part where you can watch Paris , see the Dome of the Invalides and the food is good too

Aha! That's the name of the spot where we ate - LaTerrasse. It was good, everyone enjoyed their entrees. We didn't find it til our last night in Paris, but I'll go again if I stay in the 7th. Not expensive either.

If you're going to be tired, I'd stay closer to "home" than the Bistro de Bretheuil. It's a bit of a hike.

La Fontaine de Mars is an excellent choice. So is Le Florimond at 19, ave. de la Motte Piquet (one of my favorite restaurants in Paris), but both of those would be better on a night you're not going to be exhausted.

La Terrasse is good for people watching as well as decent food. The Bistro de Papa is good for moules-frites. And Punjab has excellent Indian food.

Also on Rue L'Exposition is La Serr or La Serre? Anyway it's also a Rick Steves recommendation but I ate there one night and had the best scallops ever. Served still in their shells, coral attached, with an herbed pasta. Yum. They are known, I believe for their duck specialties. When a customer (French, I believe) asked the proprietess how fresh the duck was, she came walking out of the kitchen carrying three dead ducks by the neck! Have a fabulous trip...

La Fontaine de Mars is quite good, but a bit tight for seats. If you are not on for snails and beef, be warned, the person next to you may have them and they will be right before you.
Although a bit pricey, Le Clos des Gourmets on Avenue Rapp is close by, with excellent cuisine. An appetizer, main course and glass of wine would not be too bad on the pocket book.

St Cirq-----sorry to inform you but the Bistrot de Papa is no more and we really missed it this trip for some moules/frites and their monthly wine specials. We tried it's replacement which is called Bistrot B but were not overwhelmed.

There was a shop that had some very nice looking foods to-go. A wine shop and deli kind of deal. We were far from our hotel so found a sit down lunch instead, but the foods looked fabulous. Just keep your eyes open, it's not that long of a street!

I'm sort of glad to find out about Bistro de Papa. We ate there and while the moules were excellent, service was SO maddening it was all we could do to keep from walking out.
There is a Fauchon on rue Lamotte-Picquet near the head of rue Cler but the shops vente a emporter on rue Cler are more reasonable--sort of!!

Thanks everyone for such great restaurant tips, especially for our first night! I've made a copy of everything and will report back our experiences. Thanks again.

I had a couple of poor service experiences at the Bistro de Papa, too, but they had the best moules frites in the neighborhood. Not a big loss, though. Anyone know if the Sicilian pizza/pasta place that was just about next door is still there? My kids love that place.

I had a good dining experience at the Bistro du Breteuil in 1996 and therefore assumed the same would be so last Sunday when our party of four made reservations and ate there. I was disappointed with the service and also the quality of the food. Granted, the place was packed, and the waiters were very busy, but I felt they lacked the professionalism that is usually seen in Parisian waiters. My and my cousin's steak were not tender (probably poor choice on our part), although my and cousin's husbands were more pleased with their meals.
With all the places in Paris to go, I probably would not return to B du B; perhaps I am being too harsh. It was "acceptable", but certainly on the bottom of the list of 9 places (4 in Paris) we had dinner. The others were so good that it would be hard to rank order them.

Geesh, just read what I wrote, and it sure reads awkwardly. Cousin and I each have one husband.
