I bit the bullet and bought air tickets to Glasgow. My 21 year old son is interested in the British Open (we'll be there that week) What's the best way to get between the two cities? I don't want to drive if I can avoid it.

Looking for any suggestions. Sheila, any ideas??

thanks
Anne

Train to Edinburgh Waverley, 4 min walk to St Andrew's bus station (still in Edinburgh - that's just the name of it) and get a bus to St Andrews. Follow corwds from there. Reverse to get home.

Anne

There is a regular rail service from Glasgow to Leuchars (St Andrews) changing at Edinburgh Waverley station. For more details check out the online rail timetables at:-

http://www.railtrack.co.uk/travel/

It's been many years since I was in that area but perhaps Sheila, when she returns from her Ne'erday celebrations,
can advise further.

Bill

Thanks Bill and Young Pretender!
I've checked out the rail timetables and that seems most promising.

Anne

Anne. Leuchars is about 5 miles from St. Andrews but during the Open there will be constant hot and cold running buses making the link.

I personally would avoid that by taking the bus from Edinburgh rather than the train.

Driving to st Andrews during the Open is a mug's game. There are miles of queues and you can't get parked for anything less than a King's ransom.

I suspect there will be people doing day tours from Glasgow. Would one of them appeal? Would you like me to try to get details?

Thanks Sheila -- I knew you'd know all the ins and outs! I'd appreciate ANY info you can find.

Would we be better off staying in Edinburgh during the Open and having him travel from there? I have cousins there too I can impose upon.

Many thanks -- I'll think of you the next Irn Bru I drink!

Anne

PS -- You can email me directly if that's easier...
Certainly the transport links are easier from Edinburgh.

I'll get back to you on day trips.
