Travelling to Glasgow for a conference at the end of May. Any suggestions on places to stay close to the SECC Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre. Would like to walk around a bit if possible.

I am a bit of a foodie and would love recommendations on must eat places and items.

I'll let others do the "places to stay" question.

In Glasgow, most food ordinarily found could be described as "heart attack on a plate"; so enjoy yourself.

But it is a bit of a haven for restaurants. You will find on here reference to the Ubiquitous Chip (the Chip) and Rogano, but classy places also include Le Chardon d'Or, Stravaigin, the Corinithian, la Parmigiana and One Devonshire Gardens.

Down a level, you have Otago, Bouzy Rouge, and Cafe Gandolfo.
The place is famed for its Indians'. Try Cafe India, the Wee Curry Shop, and the Ashoka (West End). The Loon Fung is a great Chinese. Two Fat Ladies gets a good name, and there are some GREAT greasy spoons.

There are a couple of hotels in the immediate vicinity of the SECC but, if you have the option, I'd probably recommend staying in either the city centre or,alternatively, in the West End. There's not that much going on in the immediate area of the SECC whereas it's a short & easy journey from the city centre by either taxi or public transport.

I'm not really a foodie but Sheila has listed most of the usual suspects which would be worth a visit (although unfortunately the Cafe India is no more, having been destroyed by fire a few months ago).

I've heard a rumour that it might be re-opening in the Merchant City & actually that might be a good area for yotub to think about visiting - plenty of bars & restaurants.

There is an utterly amazing teppenyaki restaurant right next to the SECC, in the rotunda building, you can't miss it. Trust me, it's one of the best eateries in the whole city.

I strongly recommend 22 Byrnes Road as a restaurant (I think that's the name), look on my trip report of Glasgow, as well as staying at the Kelvingrove Hotel.
