That's so interesting -- I'd like to be able to view the forgeries side by side with the genuine. Ever since watching the movie, The Last Vermeer, I've been intrigued.
I wouldn’t say this is a forgery (yet), it seems more a mis-attribution. I think it’d be great to find out he had a studio or even just an apprentice as unlikely as it might be. I’ll be in DC in late November, I’m excited to get to see this exhibition.
I do not believe that there have been any new Vermeers discovered beyond the two dozen or so in existence. In fact, the total has been just reduced by one.

Thanks, amyb, for the correction; you are right, of course. I wasn't thinking of the connotations of that term.
Thanks for that link, Michael. I'm really looking forward to the show in Amsterdam in the spring, so am gobbling up anything I can find.. The side-by-side in the Times article is v. interesting.

There is actually one in a Japanese private collection that is now newly believed to be a Vermeer. It may be in the Rijksmuseum show if they can convince the collector to loan it which will also give Vermeer experts at the Rijks an opportunity to examine it for themselves. I know this from one of the experts currently working on the show and writing the catalog. Still waiting to hear whether they had any success with that. So far the only Vermeer confirmed NOT to be in the exhibition is the Kenwood House Vermeer, which cannot be loaned under the terms of English Heritage rules.Originally Posted by Michael

I managed to find a place to rent in Amsterdam in April. My friend is a Vermeer fanatic so she bought a membership to the RIksmuseum. That way she can go as many times as she wants during the week we are going to be there.
I would be interested in meeting up with others. We will be there the week of April 16th.

We're seeing the exhibit with my sister-in-law during the first week of March. We're actually going twice, once on the 6th and then again the next day.
AA so sorry we won't be there are the same time. Are you staying in Amsterdam?
I will be in Amsterdam from April 16-22. Let me know if you will be there and want to meet up.

I'm glad you brought this showing to our attention, Hetismij2. Right now we are able to do one trip per year and this year it's to the Netherlands to see this exhibit, so I'm grateful you brought it up and I appreciate that you are conflicted, as everyone is to one degree or another on climate. Your valuable input will be missed if you choose to leave; I think it's important to value all input regardless of whether or not one agrees, but I can see that the ganging up approach would get old for some.
Oh my - I would love to see this exhibition! I imagine it will be crowded and take the point made-up thread about Timed Entrances not being accompanied by Timed Exits. I suppose that's always going to be more difficult to monitor & manage, but it would be a good idea.

, just two days after the show opened to the public. “To ensure that the public can have a pleasant visit to the exhibition, the number of available tickets is limited.”
But the museum hinted that it would find ways of opening the show to more visitors, writing that it was “working hard to ensure more people have the opportunity to see the exhibition.”"

I have read that they cannot extend the dates of the exhibit because the loaned paintings have other obligations. They might however extend the hours of display?
I started watching this last night https://www.rijksmuseum.nl/en/johannes-vermeer
