Fodorites in Paris

Hi -- I will be traveling to Paris from Sept 30 through Oct 8 and will have a few days by myself. I don't mind sightseeing alone, but was wondering if there were some people out there who'd like to meet up for dinner one night. Budget-wise, I'm thinking anywhere from cheap to 80 or so euros a person. Location -- Louvre, Marais or Left Bank area, but open to other areas as well. Let me know if anyone is interested and I can get a group gathering going. Thanks!

Hi Amy, I will be in Paris from Sept 30 through October 7 (with an overnight trip to the Loire on oct 2).

I'm planning to meet Sea Urchin at Jim Haynes' dinner party on Sunday, October 1. Have you heard of these dinner parties? Google "Jim Haynes" and you will find his website, with information on his Sunday soirees. Sounds like fun, and for single gals like us, a great way to start the trip.

Please email Jim to make a reservation if you can make it. I hope you can.

I hope that you guys enjoy your evening with Jim Haynes. We will have dinner with him on Christmas Eve and would love to hear your feedback. We're looking forward to it as all of the reports so far have been good.

Enjoy your trips all of you.

Nina

Hi Melissa, Thanks so much for the tip about Jim Haynes' Sunday dinners! Sounds like a good time. I e-mailed him so hopefully he'll still have room left for October 1. Looking forward to meeting you and SeaUrchin both at the shindig! And I will post about the experience when I get back so everyone can read. I'm very excited about my trip!

I'm not heard of these dinners, so I'll have to check it out. I do know that there are people who often meet from the http://www.parisdailyphoto.com community, so maybe they have some ideas. What are these dinners about?

Not to worry - you'll find appealing places all over to meet up with others. There are huge sidewalk cafes all about where you'll easily strike up a conversation with other travelers and locals.

A great place to meet other travelers is L'Opentour. At the stops, and on the buses. Two ladies from Scotland (who frequently weekend in Paris)took me on one trip.

I was in Paris for two weeks alone last May, and nearly everywhere I went, ladies "took me in" at restaurants, cafes, even with my limited French. One day, while waiting for a bus, a charming widow asked if I'd like to join her for lunch at her favorite place (awesome), then took me shopping all about after. When I mentioned "kitchenware", she hauled me all over.

You really don't need a "group", just an acquaintance, and if you're friendly you'll have no problem whatsoever making a connection.

October 3 I will be coming back from Chinon and will not be in Paris till late, otherwise I'd tell you to just join us! But we can discuss at Jim's party.

I've been to Paris solo and like djk, have met many interesting people. not to worry!
