Flights within Turkey
We'll be in Turkey in September and plan to fly from Istanbul to Kayseri. We will then fly from Kayseri to Izmir for some Aegean Coast time.
Turkish Air is now offering some special fares for intra-Turkey travel paid in dollars and booked in the US, but I've been
told it's better to book internal flights
while in the country. Any advice/suggestions? Thanks!!

Hi Direne, We booked our flights in the US before we left. It is cheaper if you book when you get to Turkey, but I noticed every flight we were on was pretty full. Moral of this story, you may save money, but you may also not be able to get going when you want. Good luck, you're going to have a great time there.

We booked flights, in May 2000, while in Turkey and we had no trouble. There are travel agents in every city and they were easy to use and even got senior discounts. We found the fare very cheap and no three week in advance for cheap rates. We also did the same for Greece but I am not sure if Sept. is different than May. There seemed to be a number of flights from the main cities such as Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir, etc.

Direne,

I'll be there at the same time and want to go to Cappadocia then to Marmaris. Looks like you can book on turkishair.com (is this how you so it?). We also received a tourist package from the Turkish embassy in DC which has a listing of a number of travel agents, both domestically (US) and in Turkey. I'm trying to decide if it's better to do it idenpendently or via an agency. let me know what you decide

Dave

Dave, if you go to www.flyturkish.com
you'll find Turkish Air info for
U.S. travelers. That's where I discovered the special rates for intra-Turkey flights. Still don't know
what to do--you'll see that the other 2 responses advocate opposite approaches.
I will let you know what we decide.
