Favorite Things To Bring Back From Scotland

We will be traveling to Scotland in June. I would be like to hear what people who have traveled here recommend for gifts and personal purchases. We will traveling through Edinburgh, Grantown, and Glasgow. Thanks in advance.

Edinburgh or Stuart crystal. I brought back small vases for friends and they loved them.

Well, the obvious is whisky, then heather honey and shortbread. Pretty pottery pots and plates painted with thistles are nice too. I found a lot of local potters in scotland

Couple of the things we like to brink back are woolen sweaters (may be alittle more expensive)they always seem to have such nice sweaters. Alittle less expensive, but still very good quality, are tartan scarves &/or hats.
In Edinburgh, check out the small craft fair that sets up not far from the Traverse Theatre in the summer (when I was living there) -- beautiful woven blankets, jewelry, etc. made from Scottish craftspeople, not the usual tourist drek. And check out the Charles Rennie MacIntosh store in Glasgow, I believe on Sauchiehall Street.

NOT shortbread. You'll chomp away at it for hours, wondering if it's worth the bother...it's not. Single malt whisky, not blended, eg Highland Park, Talisker, The MacAllan, Lagavulin, Oban, but not Glenfiddich...it's weak and common. These whiskies can be bought in almost any supermarket. Woollen blankets, often "tartan", from most woollen outlets.

Here's an 'outside the box' thought: why dont YOU decide what to bring back. Now before you froth at the mouth, think about it - it may be fun. You could 'choose' some items to buy rather than waste time searching for things other people have told you to bring home. Radical, I know, but it may just work.

You mean aside from Jamie Fraser, I assume? I brought back a sweater for my daughter and a tartan umbrella under her married name. Also got Duncan tartan stuff, which was my mother's family name. Got myself a gorgeous blouse in Jenner's in Edinburgh. Sheila pooh-poohed Jenner's, but all our local department stores have been taken over by chains and I found it delightful to find a real, original, old fashioned BIG store still alive and well.

I poo-pooed Jenners? I love it. I just think it's stupidly expensive, and to a degree, done for the tourists.

So anyway-

Anything woolen including cashmere if you're rich.

Glass

Whisky-as above-ONLY buy malts

Silver from one of the artisan silversmiths

Not tat.
