Favorite hotel in Venice

We will be in Venice for three nights before a cruise. Do you have a suggestion for a favorite hotel? We have been to Venice before and dont necessarily need to stay at one of the most highly rated hotels (ex. Cipiriani or the Gritti)but we would like an upscale romantic hotel. Any suggestions??

The Ca'Pisani, behind the Accademia in the Dorsoduro, is elegant and I found it romantic, but I would be sure to book a room with good light and windows if you are about to get into a cruise cabin. Some of the rooms are like vaults.

I haven't stayed at the Ca'Pisani, but what I've seen of it was very appealing, and the location is excellent. In the San Marco quarter, the Colombina is very nice, as is the Flora. The Flora has variation in its room sizes for sure.

Hi

I haven't stayed here but I love the look of this place. Maybe a canal side room. Marconi Hotel - http://www.hotelmarconi.it/hotel_mar..._venice-en.htm

Foscari Palace!

We absolutely loved it. Wonderfully renovated palace, rooms equate what I expect at a 5 star in the States. Rooms are far prettier and more updated than they appear on the website. The bathroom was fantastic...all marble, multi-jet showers, garden tub.

They host a "soiree" for guests a couple of times a week: free champagne, canapes, chamber music. If you want romantic, this is the place.

Other reviewers at Trip Advisor liked it as well:

I meant to add that the "travelers' photos" on Trip Advisor are much better than Foscari's website. There are lots of pictures of rooms, the pretty lobby and the rooftop terrace.

Around the 3rd page of photos you'll see a room with 2 beds, french doors leading out to a balcony and green/gold striped curtains. That was our room.

We loved the Ca dei Conti.

Look at the photos. We had the green-decorated room, which overlooks a lovely little canal.

The Pensione Accademia is charming. It's in a great location, has lots of regular guests and it has two pleasant gardens.

We like the Locanda Orseolo or their sister hotel.

bobthenavigator Jul 23rd, 2008 06:11 AM

Al Ponte Antico--which is the sister hotel.

Another vote for Focari Palace. Great hotel!

HappyTrvlr Jul 23rd, 2008 09:09 AM

Hotel Flora is charming and quiet, a little oasis in the middle of Venice.

I second the vote for the Locanda Orseolo. It has been the #1 ranked small hotel in Venice for several years running now. It is the people who run it who make it so special. My family fondly recalls it as our favorite hotel EVER, anywhere. Great quite location, on a canal, just steps away from the square, and an easy walk to Rialto Bridge.

just stayed at Locando Orseola last week and it is as wonderful as everyone says!! location is perfect, staff are wonderful, breakfast is delicious, and the AC was GREAT!!!

Everyone's idea of "upscale" is different, but www.lacalcina.com is a solid 3-star that is very very nice.

I will also put in a plug for the Locanda Orseolo. Although our room and bath were not "luxurious," the hotel is very nice and the staff is amazing. My family agreed we would all stay there again in a heartbeat. It is family owned and run and they make you feel like a part of the family the moment you walk in the door (where they actually greeted us by name!) The breakfast is delicious - probably the best we had in our 2 month trip across Europe. Also, the location is great - whenever you get lost (and you will) - just follow the signs to St. Mark's Square and the hotel is easy to find from there.

I think the Foscari Palace would be a wonderful choice. La Calcina is also a good one.

Thank you all so much!!! Off I go to do more research. I knew this was the place to get the most updated and personal references.

Thanks again. Jan

Suggest Hotel Monaco & Grand Canal. Best location in Venice.

Delaine Jul 24th, 2008 09:26 AM

The Westin Europa & Regina is a fabulous hotel with a beautiful location directly across from Santa Maria della Salute. However, I like the Luna Baglioni as well. It is about as close to Piazza San Marco as you can get but somewhat tucked away. They are both quite luxurious.
