Favorite hotel in Venice
We will be in Venice for three nights before a cruise. Do you have a suggestion for a favorite hotel? We have been to Venice before and dont necessarily need to stay at one of the most highly rated hotels (ex. Cipiriani or the Gritti)but we would like an upscale romantic hotel. Any suggestions??

The Ca'Pisani, behind the Accademia in the Dorsoduro, is elegant and I found it romantic, but I would be sure to book a room with good light and windows if you are about to get into a cruise cabin. Some of the rooms are like vaults.

I haven't stayed at the Ca'Pisani, but what I've seen of it was very appealing, and the location is excellent. In the San Marco quarter, the Colombina is very nice, as is the Flora. The Flora has variation in its room sizes for sure.

Hi
I haven't stayed here but I love the look of this place. Maybe a canal side room. Marconi Hotel - http://www.hotelmarconi.it/hotel_mar..._venice-en.htm |
Foscari Palace!
We absolutely loved it. Wonderfully renovated palace, rooms equate what I expect at a 5 star in the States. Rooms are far prettier and more updated than they appear on the website. The bathroom was fantastic...all marble, multi-jet showers, garden tub. They host a "soiree" for guests a couple of times a week: free champagne, canapes, chamber music. If you want romantic, this is the place. Other reviewers at Trip Advisor liked it as well: http://tinyurl.com/5cf3cr FOSCARI PALACE: http://www.venicewelcome.com/foscaripalace.htm |

I meant to add that the "travelers' photos" on Trip Advisor are much better than Foscari's website. There are lots of pictures of rooms, the pretty lobby and the rooftop terrace. Around the 3rd page of photos you'll see a room with 2 beds, french doors leading out to a balcony and green/gold striped curtains. That was our room. |
We loved the Ca dei Conti.
http://www.cadeiconti.com/en/ Look at the photos. We had the green-decorated room, which overlooks a lovely little canal. Byrd |
The Pensione Accademia is charming. It's in a great location, has lots of regular guests and it has two pleasant gardens.

We like the Locanda Orseolo or their sister hotel.
|
Al Ponte Antico--which is the sister hotel.
|
Another vote for Focari Palace. Great hotel!
|
Hotel Flora is charming and quiet, a little oasis in the middle of Venice.
|
I second the vote for the Locanda Orseolo. It has been the #1 ranked small hotel in Venice for several years running now. It is the people who run it who make it so special. My family fondly recalls it as our favorite hotel EVER, anywhere. Great quite location, on a canal, just steps away from the square, and an easy walk to Rialto Bridge.
|
just stayed at Locando Orseola last week and it is as wonderful as everyone says!! location is perfect, staff are wonderful, breakfast is delicious, and the AC was GREAT!!!
|
Everyone's idea of "upscale" is different, but www.lacalcina.com is a solid 3-star that is very very nice.
|
I will also put in a plug for the Locanda Orseolo. Although our room and bath were not "luxurious," the hotel is very nice and the staff is amazing. My family agreed we would all stay there again in a heartbeat. It is family owned and run and they make you feel like a part of the family the moment you walk in the door (where they actually greeted us by name!) The breakfast is delicious - probably the best we had in our 2 month trip across Europe. Also, the location is great - whenever you get lost (and you will) - just follow the signs to St. Mark's Square and the hotel is easy to find from there.
|
I think the Foscari Palace would be a wonderful choice. La Calcina is also a good one.
|
Thank you all so much!!! Off I go to do more research. I knew this was the place to get the most updated and personal references.
Thanks again. Jan |
Suggest Hotel Monaco & Grand Canal. Best location in Venice.
|
The Westin Europa & Regina is a fabulous hotel with a beautiful location directly across from Santa Maria della Salute. However, I like the Luna Baglioni as well. It is about as close to Piazza San Marco as you can get but somewhat tucked away. They are both quite luxurious.
|
We stayed at Londra Palace in 2005,
and I would highly recommend it. |
We stayed at the Marconi in October 2006. Can't beat the location, and the rooms were very evocative of everything Venetian. Small, but that's to be expected. We only had a very small window in an awkward corner, so if that matters be sure to be directly in touch with the hotel to confirm a particular room. Front desk was very nice, although they were clearly getting kickbacks from some of the restaurants and performances they recommended. Have to say, though, for the price and location, we'd stay there again. Have fun!
|
We also stayed at the Marconi and really liked it! We had a reasonably sized room w/a real window, but while they were cleaning the rooms in the front overlooking the Grand Canal we snuck in for a look. Heavenly! Like what you would imagine from an old time movie or novel about Venice!
What amazes me about this hotel is its combination of incredible location w/o being noisy. |
I don't know what your budget is, jlpx2, but if you find some of the previously-mentioned places not in your budget, you might consider the B&B Corte1321.
It is owned by 2 American women and was the loveliest place we stayed in all of Europe. It is in the San Polo district, about 2 mts to the Vaporetto and 5-7 mts to the Rialto Bridge. Here is website: http://www.corte1321.com/en/sent_request.htm |
|
Locanda Orseolo. No question about it.
We have been in the Hotel industry for 25 years and have been to many, many resorts, hotels and inns...never had this type of experience. It was awesome. We did not even get a "deluxe" room...but we did have canal view. It is about the people that run it...I'm sure Al Ponte Antico is just as great. We "drove by it" but did not have a chance to get in. |

Pensione Accademia in the area of Dosordura. Request Room #44 which has a view of a side canal and has a lot of windows. Even a big window in the bathroom.
|
I love Palazzo Priuli http://www.hotelpriuli.com/
very romantic location and comfortabla suites. The staff is highly professiona, too. hope this helps! :-) |
Hotel Flora, my favorite.
|
Hi, can someone look at this hotel - www.alpontemocenigo.com and give me their opinions - especially about the location. Does it seem too far from the main areas that we would walk to?
|
My budget is about 150-175 euros for a room that will accommodate 3, some of the hotels mentioned above are far more.
|
E/C....Did I miss your saying when you are going? Prices in Venice vary over the year and 175 euros may buy more or less hotel depending on when.
|
We are considering going to Italy again next May. The Ca Dei Conti looks like a great place to stay.
For anyone who has stayed there - can you recommend a particular room? There is a wide range of prices for the rooms. Would consider the lower end, i.e., Loft or Classic but even within the Classic category the prices vary greatly. Thanks |
Excited,
I love Al Ponte Mocenigo. It is in a quiet neighborhood but also just 5-10 minutes from Ponte Rialto, a major area for visitors. It is also just steps from a vaporetto stop. It's location also means there are less touristy, less expensive restaurants nearby. I have stayed here twice and would return again in a minute. |
I see Locanda Orseolo is now in the Fodors Italy 2009 book, so get your reservations in early!
|
excited_confused~
That hotel is by the train station, right? I think it's a bit out-of-the-way, but that is where many of the lower priced hotels are located. La Calcina I mentioned earlier is in your price range, but I don't see triple rooms listed on their website. The reason people are suggesting more expensive hotels is because the OP on this thread asked about "upscale" ones. |
Al Ponte Mocenigo is not BY the train station. It's in a quiet part of Santa Croce right by the San Stae stop. I find it jsut as convenient as staying in Dorsoduro on the Zatterre, my other preferred neighborhood.
|
Thanks for the info, I am glad that the location is convenient. We will be there in the first week of June. Since I am not sure if there will be 3 or 4 of us, we can get a triple here & then add an extra bed if necessary. Of course , the price with the extra bed is over my budget but oh well!
The other choice would be to find an apt but since we will be doing that in Rome, I thought a hotel might be a change here. Any opinions on hotel v/s apt in Venice? |
Hello jlpx2
We just got back from Venice Italy, we stayed for 4 nights at La Locandiera. It is located within 5 minute walk to St. Marks square in a small piazza very quite and close to all the sights, the hotel is spotless we had a triple room and it was very large, breakfast is included. The people that mange the hotel are very nice and helpful. It is not a upscale hotel but we liked it very much. |
