I figure I'll end up on medicaid anyway the way our health care system is going -- so better to spend my retirement funds on travel:)
crazymina -- I have some stuff at virtualtourist.com/shrimp56 -- otherwise not -- feel free to email me at [email protected]. |
We're off to Amsterdam and Germany (mostly Bavaria) September 1 for three weeks. I'm green with envy for all the people who have more than on trip planned! So much world to see, and so little time! But we have months to experience the joy of planning, and months to savor the memories before starting planning our next trip.

5 Day weekend in London in March.
2 weeks in Switzerland and Northern Italy in May Next up....Australia in Sept 2004 |
lyb....I don't know about others..but My DH had 4 weeks vacation on his job..I worked PT for years but with benefits..so I had 3 weeks could buy 2 more weeks and 10 optional days...but several years ago we decided to semi retire..and do what pleased us! Work or not work...nowhere near the money we made while working but a lot more fun! I do relief work at about 25% more than I made working full time per hour..do off hours and holidays..if and when I want to! DH works ,when he feels like it in a sales job that doesn;t pay much but he gets a discount on all his boy toys! But we had no kids..lots of income, saved even when we weren't making it ,drove smaller cars..usually 1 at company expense..didn't live outside our income...so now we can do what we want!

Have a week's vacation in October, but haven't decided a location yet (although we are leaning toward Europe after the other trips). Prague, maybe? |

I leave in 13 days! I'm headed for Italy (Venice), Switzerland (Luzern), France (Colmar) and Germany (Freiburg and Baden-Baden); this will be trip number 10 to Europe in the past eight years for me.
In fact, I think it's time to start packing! I just checked www.seatguru.com to see where my seats are on the flights, and I think I may even go rummaging through the basement to find my good friend Fifi. (That's my pink hairdryer that I bought in Paris.) Bonjour Fifi! |
Went to Rome & Venice at start of Iraq war; going to Copenhagen & Paris in October.

Gone and want to go back again!!!!!:)
Just came back over 10 days ago from 5 weeks in Italy and France... Rome, 5Terre, Pescara,Piacenza, Avignon, Mejannes,Uzes and Paris.... Loved every minute despite the hot weather.... Already planning for next year!!! |
I work at a large company and have been there many years, they have a liberal vacation, personal days and sick day attitude, so far at least.
I get 5 1/2 weeks vacation including 3 personal days for appts. My boss wants to take as much time off as so sometimes I sneak in a sick day or two. In April I went to Southern Italy for two weeks, in October I am going to Northern and central Italy. I would like to go to some European country for the Christmas Season this year for a week. I just spend my money on travel, clothes and nice restaurants, no comments please, lol. |
After two major health scares in our little family (DH was told two years ago that he had 6 months to live and I had a bad accident and am lucky to be alive) we decided to have more fun. We want to do exciting things with our children, make great memories for our daughers, so we go on holiday every opportunity we get. I own two small businesses and the hubby is a partner in another one. Most of the families that we know here in CA take vacations to Hawaii and to Disney World in Orlando FL. Those choices never made much sense to me since we live by the beach and their trips cost about what ours do. Different strokes I guess.

One week in London in February. Three weeks in France in May. Yes, we're retired after each working 32 years in careers we enjoyed. But our goal for our post-fulltime employment was always travel, as often as we physically and financially could manage it.
|
Italy in 25 days. But who's counting?
|
English One, still seems strange to that someone is excited to be heading to your hometown (Memphis), but it's all in perspective, I guess. :) I was pretty excited about England!
Won't make it to Europw this year, but will likely go to Australia in December or thereabouts. |
