Edinburgh-Late Dec. Weather?

We are considering a visit to Edinburgh for the last week of Dec. We understand they have a wonderful New Year's Eve festival. Can anyone advise us as to the weather at that time of year? <BR>Many thanks!

Only if you promise not be put off.... <BR> <BR>Cold and wet; or, if you're lucky, cold and dry. But cold and wet is the safer bet. <BR> <BR>But Edinburgh's hogmanay party is great and you would love it. dress warm, bring a waterproff and book into someplace with an open fire and a good stock of malt whisky. What more could a body ask for?

We were in Europe last December and in Edinburgh for Christmas and New Years. Before I describe the weather - I will qualify that I am from Wisconsin. <BR> <BR>Scotland was the warmest weather we had the entire trip (we were in Germany, Switzerland, and France). Night time lows were around freezing - day time the temp was mid 40s to low 50s. For winter time I described it as almost balmy. We went to the Hogmanay celebration and the weather was great - no rain and mild temps. We were very comfortable. Have a great time - it is a great city.

Not that I like to agree with Sheila but...yeah cold and then some more cold on top of that. <BR> <BR>In winter 96/97 in Edinburgh it got down to minus 26. Five seconds in that temperature and you knew all about it. <BR> <BR>Generally it will be freezing, always windy in Edinburgh and may or may not be raining. Snow usually waits these days until the new year.

In joining in this lvefest, I would like to pint out that was the coldest it's been here in 40 years or something. Normal is 3 o4 degrees of fros at night and tp to 3-4 degrees above during the day

Sheila - were you just having one of those moments?? (**grin** LOL!!!!!) Reminds me of myself when I haven't had my morning tea! <BR> <BR>The winter can be extremely windy. Gray and rainy will most likely be the order of the day.

Hi, Ann, <BR> <BR>Don't forget dark, too. Northern latitudes, longest nights of the year and a' that. <BR>Still, it can be a lot of fun, and to quote an ancient TV advert, "Yer beer is good." <BR> <BR>Are you a tall dark stranger?

I understand that the city centre celebrations are ticket-only.Weatherwise be prepared for anything.
