Edinburgh GTG, April?

My sister and I are packing light for a spring trip, just three weeks to travel day. With no glitches, we're scheduled to arrive Good Friday in Glasgow (I thought we'd be flying into EDI, but things changed while planning the trip).

We do spend the day in Edinburgh on 19 April:
First a fast peep at the book sculptures in the National Library, http://www.nls.uk/news/archive/2013/11/paper-sculptures ; a genealogy workshop, http://www.scotsgenealogy.com/ ; the farmer's market, http://www.edinburghfarmersmarket.co.uk/ ; and then I hope a GTG with unclegus before we take the train back to Glasgow Central Station (staying at the Radisson Blu, right by it).

Unclegus, are you back from holiday? Anyone else be in town that day?

Cheers!

YAY, Scotlib, I am so glad you are going back to Scotland! I have not seen any April trips of yours for more than a year and wondered if I had missed them or worried that you had been ill.

I am looking forward to reading your trip report and hoping you have a wonderful time.

Hi Irishface yes, the last April vacation trip was 2012, no trip last year. I don't know that I'll get there in 2015 (takes longer to save up the $). If I don't make next year, I already have sights set on 2016

Hi unclegus, do you have a suggestion for meeting place? Occurs to me that the location/time can be set on the thread. Just if you wanted to send something not on the thread, you can use my gmail.

My sister has never been to Scotland, and though I've made a number of visits, I've not had a pub meal in Edinburgh (I've stuck to take aways).

The farmers market is until 2, so after that would be great for the GTG. Thanks!

I could meet you somewhere near the farmers market.loads of plces in the are. I am not a regular vistor to pubs and resturants up town so no expert but if you fancy we could walk or get the bus to The Worlds End on the Royal mile ,it is small pace but good and it is only a 5 minute walk from the train station.

I will be away for a fair bit of the day today but will see any reply later.

It's been a crazy busy day with cleaning house and packing. A couple more days of work and then A-day!

If we meet at the farmers market, then we can walk to either The Worlds End or stop at any place that meets our fancy? How about by the Arran's Cheese Shop at 2pm? According to the map, it looks like they're the spot closest to the Johnston Terrace end of the market, http://www.edinburghfarmersmarket.co...aspx?pageID=38

I know that I'll be wearing a black coat. I think I'll make a little "pin" from the Fodor's logo and wear it on the day. It should show nicely, orange on black

It occurs to me that you're the second person with a persona name of Uncle Gus that I'll have met. As kids we watched a local show (very small market), The Uncle Gus Show, http://www.wmur.com/tv/wmurs-60th-an...-clip/25179290 We also went on it ourselves at least a couple of times when in elementary school,

Hmm, it was the old Fodor's logo that was orange. Well, I'll have to recreate it and get the orange back.

Yes, it would have been great to meet you, too, JanisJ. As soon as I'm back, I'll be saving for the next trip, so maybe one day ...

the Arran Cheese shop will be one of the stalls, but the market area is not that big so I will find you, I will bring my unclegus sign (6x4 laminate card).I did send you an email, don't know if you got it.
it is easy to walk to the Worlds end from the market ,down through the historic old town, will take 15-20 minutes
